Seeing as how most new computers, as well as some sites like Facebook, have a search bar which provides an instant list of search results as you type, I think implementing the same sort of feature to the forum would make it a lot easier to find material (with the ability to return users as well as threads and posts), especially given that the current search function isn't all that advanced. I could see being on top of the page, next to one of the banners, with options for determining search criteria. I don't know how hard it would be to implement this, but I think it is definitely worth considering.

It's a good idea, but the search function itself would first need to be fixed. Adding ajax functionality would then be a nice feature, but probably quite far down the list.
