Today is a special day! When written out in the MMDDYY format, the number is 03/06/09. That's a 3-6-9, the first three multiples of the first number. This type of day happens only 12 times per century!

Live it to the fullest.

You do know that MMDDYY is not a real format, right?

Can't go on about sequences and then stick the day between the month and the year, imao.

Money has little to no inherent value. The reason a $100 bill is worth more than a $1 bill is because everybody says it is--it's not because Ben Franklin is more awesome than George Washington.

Since many people use the format, it is a useful format--full of use.

A part of the social tinkerbell theory (self-made, not [to my knowledge] common under that name.)

I'm with Maurog here. I never understood why people use the MMDDYY format. I'm too used to the DDMMYY (which is more intuitive) or YYMMDD (automatic sorting) but MMDDYY is just confusing. When I see something like 03/06/09 I don't know if its the 3rd of June or the 6th of March.

For example, it happened to me when I saw the Watchmen date release (today 3򉼵).

Do you know where is this format used? Is it just in the USA, English-speaking countries or is it something more widely spread?

That means that we'll have this 3*1/3*2/3*3 day (/ is not a division sign here ;)) on the 3rd of June! Yay! :smile

And I know that Canada uses MM/DD/YY, but I'm not sure who else.

Okay, so apparently America's MDY system doesn't have as much spread as I thought.

I'm used to the MDY format (I'm American), so that's what I tend to use. When I say a date, I say it's March 6th. I don't say it's the 6th of March. This may stem from the format America tends to use.

In attempting to avoid the "not in DMY format!" debate, I apparently inspired the "DMY is better than MDY!" debate.

I should have done square root day. That would have avoided that mess altogether.

If you use DD/MM/YY format you only get 6 holidays a century instead of 12. Who wouldn't want 6 extra holidays?

Also, Ben Franklin is way cooler than George Washington... I mean he's on the $100 bill and George is only on the $1.

Ben Franklin is totally my hero. He tamed the lightning, invented bifocal glasses and built the glass armonica.

I think we all agree that he's a hundred times cooler than Washington.

If so, it's quite obscure.

I just read on mmy local ISP's news that today is Odd Day in the U.S. It is one of only six dates this century with three consecutive odd numbers. A guy named Ron Gordon is even offering a $579 prize for those who celebrate the day with the most zeal.

I guess everyone who uses day/month/year format will have to celebrate another time.

Technically speaking it is not an odd day. Thursday is fourth day of the week which is not really odd number (unless you count weekdays starting from Sunday which, in my humble opinion, is at least very strange). But if you do, then it is 5th day and you have either 5-5-7-9 or 5-7-9-5, either way they aren't consecutive. Now if it was Wednesday, it would be 3-5-7-9 which is even odder than three odds.

All of this assuming that we would suddenly decide to count weekday too :).

Really? As far as I know, the majority of calendars start their weeks on a Sunday; I would consider that normal and starting on Monday strange.

Why start a week from a free day? It's almost like "What I can do today I will do tomorrow". Also, to mention something I am not completely comfortable with mentioning, bible states that first six days were work days (Monday through Saturday) and the seventh (Sunday) was the day for rest. Considering the Christianity's big influence on the world in past... Less than two thousand years, I'd be willing to bet it's Sunday-first calendar the one less frequently used.
Well, anyway I was brought up in a strong belief into superiority of Monday-first calendar to any other (consider it like half-joke) and that one is more natural and logical for me.

Actually, Jews nowadays celebrate the Sabbath on Saturday. So Sunday is the first day of the week for any Jew that uses the Gregorian calendar.

Except there's the whole debacle about calendars changing so wildly we don't even know when Tuesday is anymore.

And as for why that would matter: Jewish weddings are traditionally typically held on a Tuesday. The second coming of Christ is occasionally metaphorically referred to as a wedding. Hence it has a good chance of being on Tuesday.

I can almost see someone writing a story about an anti-religious government removing Tuesday in order to make their rule remain forever. It could be called T for Tuesday.

Meh, I think it is being overcomplicated. Monday is going to be beginning of the week for me anyway. Especially that I just recently finished school and it was synonymous to "Beginning of Torture" just half of a month ago :).

Yes... haven't you ever read the book of David? IIRC, there's a count of days which just so happens to end around the time Jesus, He who I believe to be the Messiah, was riding into Jerusalem.

Neither math nor science can predict the supernatural. "Good chance" and "second coming" (or whatever variation) is inherently a noncredible proposition.

Believe what you will. Just don't go throwing statistics at prophecies that haven't yet happened. I could lose my spleen from laughing so hard.

I was trying to use logic (which is math, and hence science, and can predict the supernatural when said supernatural stuff is flawlessly consistent) on a (hopefully) internally consistent set of beliefs to make a utterly useless (since we don't know when Tuesday is anymore) but potentially humorous prediction, to wit: "Jewish weddings tend to happen on Tuesdays. Christ's second coming is described as a wedding. Jesus is a jew. Therefore, it is a Jewish wedding. Therefore, whatever day the second coming of Christ happens, it's probably gonna be the original Tuesday."
