The poll closed and here are the final scores for each entry:
Hold 1 - Average 3.6923076923077
Hold 2 - Average 3
Hold 3 - Average 3.6923076923077
Hold 4 - Average 4
Hold 5 - Average 3.6153846153846
Hold 6 - Average 3.6153846153846
Hold 7 - Average 4.0769230769231
How are these arrived at? For each entry, sum up the votes multiplying the count times it's rating value. Then divide by the number of votes cast (always 13). For example, on the first entry:
( (1 x 1) + (2 x 0) + (3 x 5) + (4 x 3) + (5 x 4) ) / 13 =
( 1 + 0 + 15 + 12 + 20 ) / 13 =
48 / 13 =
3.6923076923077
You can double-check the calcs, if you like, but in this case they were all performed by computational devices provided by the elegant and graceful Matt Schikore. So from the above results, we get some final results:
1st place - Watcher for Hold #7.
2nd place - ClaytonW for Hold #4.
3rd place - A tie between DiMono and Agaricus for holds #1 and #3, respectively.
It should be noted that holds 5 and 6 could have made 3rd place with just one more positive vote. And hold 2, although technically the least favorite with a "
3"
average rating, was judged positively (remember that our rating system is skewed with a neutral rating at 2). A few people commented that all of the holds were enjoyable to play, so I think everyone who entered has cause to be proud. Well, let's not say "
proud"
. Self-satisfied, maybe. And I definitely won't go so far as to say that everyone was a winner, because in truth, only four people were:
Watcher, e-mail erikh at caravelgames dot net and say which item from
The DROD Store you would like to receive along with the address to which I should ship. You'll also receive 100 rank points. Congratulations! I'll be watching to see what other holds you might come up with. And that answers the question of who watches the watcher, for the people who were wondering.
Clayton, you get 50 rank points. Don't be too upset that you didn't get first place. I know that you're used to winning these contests, but there is a time to be gracious and humble. Stop with the lip-quivering, already!
DiMono and
Agaricus, I thought about spliting the 25 rank points between you, but that would make it so Schik has to write new code to allow awarding non-whole number (12.5) rank points, and he's tired of me ordering him around. Besides, I don't want to be the Jack Benny of rank points. I can just be generous and give you both 25 rank points. Yeah, that's what I'll do.
