What about a mimc that does the opposite of whatever you do.

I'm not sure maybe this has been suggested before and if it has please tell me, but I think you could do a lot with these.

Now that's an intriguing idea... oh the things you could do with a puzzle that required both to be moved at the same time... of course, after the tomb of nomb, I don't much ever want to see a mimic again. Ooh... my mind is already reeling with some cool puzzles you could do with anti-mimics... in a lot of ways they'd be more useful than regular mimics, because their sword would face in the opposite direction of you thus allowing multi-directional fighting... mmm yeah...

Yes, this has been suggested before in at least two other topics, one of which is here

I did not look for the other one, but it's probably hanging around somewhere near page 6 or 7.

I think it came up on a topic with pre-placed mimics. There was also one about mimics that do double what you do. I think new forms of mimics are a good idea, but it seems a lot of people on the forum don't.

So what happens if Beethro steps up in the following situation, using reverse-mimics?
M-

-B
M is the mimic, B is Beethro, and the - are swords. Beethro steps up, then the Mimic steps down and kills him?

I think the mimic would be blocked by the sword and would not move.

No, the mimic would be killed or blocked,I'm not sure which would make more sense...

I'm pretty sure that the mimic would be blocked.

The big question here, which has been brought up before, is "what would happen if the swords would collide?". Or, in DiMono's example, if Beethro was one square to the right, and the same thing happened, what would occur?

There are four good possibilities, and one that would alter the game significantly and be bad, but I'll put it anyway.

1-They overlap
2-They cannot overlap, so the anti-mimic is blocked.
3-The mimic will move, but its sword will stay in the same position. (Beethro moves first)
4-The anti-mimics sword is destroyed.
5-Beethro's sword is destroyed.

I tend to go for either 1 or 2, but who knows? Someone may like 5.

5 could lead to "let's get the hell out of here because the sword will respawn when I enter a different room," which could be nice, but is probably one of those ideas that gets delegated to "not for DROD"

Yeah, I think overlap is a good idea. Of course, on the subject of being killed by an antimimic, it's also just as dangerous if not more so to have a mimic near you. With an antimimic there's only a few places in the room you can be killed with that thing.

And if Beethro moves first then it's impossible to be killed by an antimimic. Really, think about it. These are actually SAFER than normal mimics. That and the fact that it allows much more efficient puzzles.

I think overlapping is a much better idea. After all, it can overlap walls.

I say both swords are destroyed, thus forcing you to be extra careful with the anti-mimic if you're going to need to cut folks down, but also allowing you to use the swordless Beethro as a puzzle solving device, thus enhancing the number of puzzles you can create.. woohoo!

Curses! I did overlook that.

Still, I don't think that would make it into the game either.

I thought we were going to have (probably) some other types of mimics - at least a few more types of potions.

Yeah, 2 is not a good number in any media/game unless they're opposite things, like 2 opposing sides in a battle would be for good and evil, two ancient artifacts for life and death, two staves that have the powers of hot and cold, 2 potions that make a mimic and make an anti-mimic, and so on and so forth.
