Ok, now for the second tier of this contests, which is voting on the contests.

As I said before, to vote, please follow these guidelines.
(Voting):

Design. How well was the contest structured, laid out, designed? Were there gaping flaws in the contest? If so, were they dealt with quickly and efficiently?

Presentation. Was the announcement clear and concise, readable? Or was it another great wall of Chinese text? Was it easy on the eyes, well presented? Did the contest host present themselves well?

Management. Did the contest host work well with inquiries, run the contest smoothly and deal with any disasters and slipups effectively? Did they seem like they knew what they were doing? Did the winners get picked in a fair and reasonable manner? Was the contest run in a fun and fair manner?

Originality. This is more of a bonus point than a marking criteria. If you think that the contest host touched upon a concept that nobody else has thought of, reward them accordingly.
Note that if someone failed to submit their contest on time, and had to make use of the extension, (assuming that they had winners to submit) this reflects poorly on their management of the contest.

If someone didn't get any, or many, entrants in their contest, please decide for yourself if you think the person was just unlucky, or if their design was either too vague or too hard for a simple mini contest.

If you think that X instead of Y should have won a contest, please don't take away points. Rather, take away points if you felt that they had a poor judging system, failed to come the the winners in a justified way, or had anomalies in their voting procedure.

Contestants, please remember to vote your entry ten, and the others fairly. Big Brother is watching, so no shifty business.

If you want to leave comments, in order to avoid influencing other peoples voting, please copy this link of text into your post, and insert your comments in the insert text here area.

I ended up giving noma a 10 and Tahnan TripleM a 9. Both were great contests by all criteria (not that I necessarily paid direct attention to said criteria when voting), but Puzzle Rally Race took a constant upkeep, while Tahnan TripleM just had a one-shot deal, for the moderator as well as the contestants. Noma got my originality points.

Sheesh.

Odd, it seems as if the time set for the polls and the time for the untiltime tags don't mean the same thing.

anyway, you guys might want to edit your tags with this date 6/1/2008 1:00 AM. Sorry. :blush

It makes me feel better that I am not the only one who has trouble with these time tags. :look

I am not sure what the goal was.

I am in the PDT so this shows 5 hours off:

This is Sun, 01 Jun 2008 01:00:00
Insert text here

But this opens at the same time the poll closes:

This is unhidetime 5/31/2008 8:00 PM

These are empty so don't worry nothing will really be revealed.

I'd also urge people to post their feedback. (Although I do consider 22 to be a decent turnout.)

Though the counter currently shows 24 votes cast, the bars -- when moused over -- only total 15 votes. A related issue was looked into by coppro but it wasn't quite the same thing. I'd hate to think someone's vote was not being counted. Anyone have any ideas on why this discrepancy occurs?

Probably because people hit the view poll option. For some reason (I forget what) view poll is counted as a vote.

This contest is a bit tough to judge seeing as there were contests I didn't/couldn't participate in, but I found that NiroZ's judging guidelines were a very useful way to get around this. I think that considering the sheer number of contests this month, unless an idea was very original, fun sounding or simple to participate in, it was going to be difficult to get participants and judges. I believe it was fair to apply this to contest degisn when I was scoring, as meta contest participants should have taken it into account when creating mini-contests.

Here are some of my thoughts about each contest.

Impossible, Or Not? - This would have received a 9 from me as it was very simply presented and designed (good things) and was an original idea. It lost marks because of contest management.

Adder Combo - The rules could have been a bit clearer. Were there rules/guidelines from the other contest that had to be followed here? A link would have been helpful.

Long Way Round - Good idea but overall a bit ambiguous; especially the judging.

Surplus Materials - Well presented and designed, but considering the meta-contest, it might have been too much for people to do.

Rare/Common Answers - Really liked this one. Talk about a simple contest to run and enter... which was a great idea considering the whole meta-contest. Fun, simple to understand, well presented, well managed.

Guard Usage - Lost marks for management as there were no deadlines or criteria for judging. Also, an example hold would have been helpful.

Practicality - Way too ambitious for a mini-contest but an interesting and original idea.

Spin Me a Yarn - Well designed, well managed, well presented and fun judging concept. The only change I could suggest would have been to allow all types of bardish entries: short stories, poems, songs, etc.

Debaters of the Eighth - very original and fun to particpate in, as well as follow.

Time Reset - Lost marks due to management: lack of deadline, no poll and late submission of winners.

Fastest Man Alive - Fun, simple, original and easy to participate in. Plus bonus mark for creating the contest room. I felt that, time investment-wise, this contest and Rare/Common Answers were the best mini-contest ideas, considering the whole meta-contest that was going on.

Meta Contest - This was fun, but it would have been more fun to participate in more contests without feeling like it was work. A better idea might have been to have a two part contest. First, people would present their ideas. Then a poll would be set up to vote on which ideas we thought should be in the contest, taking into account what sounds fun and not too onerous to participate in. Then, the top 5 or so would be run. This way we might have more participants and more judges. Points would still be awarded for participating and perhaps for judging too.

Let's not have a runoff for 2nd and 3rd place. I surrender any claim to 2nd place and will take 3rd place just to avoid it. O:-

Looks like that's the way it's going to be. The poll has closed, and noma is the clear winner, with techant and Tahnan tied for second place.

Guilty as charged below...for some reason, I confuse the two of you.

Since I won the participant contest -- and that also offers a Prize Pile prize -- could I give the 2nd PPP over to techant, since she's declining a runoff vote?

Arg, well it appears that people have already stolen my thunder, so I'm making this post mainly for record keeping purposes.

First prize goes to Noma. I think you deserved 1st place, given the level of care shown towards entrants, as well as the overall quality of the contest.

Second place goes to TripleM, who I felt was a very close runner up to Noma. He paid close attention to his entrants, and had a well thought out contest. Unfortunately, he fell into the teacher paradox, where people only consider the time actually in front of them. Having run many a contest, I know how much work is often put into the background of these contests in order to make them run smoothly, and that data analysis was superb, and must of taken up quite a bit of time.

Third place by her own choice is Techant, who presented a well thought out, carefully executed contest.

Thus the participants of this contest are:
Noma, Mr. Slice, Someone Else, hartleyhair, Ezlo, Triple M, Mxvladi, hyperme, vittro, The spitemaster and techant.

As for the rankpoints to be awarded for participating and winning the mini contests, it goes as follows.

Moo 2
hartleyhair 2
kie 2
Mr. Slice 2
Dischorran 3
BoyBlue 3
runtly 3
Ezlo 3
captainzakku 5
krammer 5
Rabscuttle 5
Noma 58 + 100
Hahi 10
zex20913 35
VIPCOOL 12
Doom 23
Techant 0 + 25
Triple M 0 + 50

[rank point prizes have been awarded -- mrimer]

And Noma, you can transfer your 2nd prize pile pick to Techant, but note that one of them is an 8 timer prize (thus has a limited selection), the other is just a prize pile pick (which gives you the choice to select anything from the prize pile). I don't know what exactly each of you want (or if you just want to hold onto it until something else pops up), so um, sort it out between yourselves, then contact dex stewart with your decisions individually. Unless of course you don't want to choose anything, in which case feel free to sit on it.

Thank you for your gracious offer. I have two PPP I am sitting on right now myself. Plus a partipation PP :lol

For years of entering contest I won nothing then all. Then at one time it seemed I was on a streak. I have not decided what to get yet that is why I am still saving them.

Again thank you for the offer, I recommend you go to the store and pick up a new outfit. The prize for this contest let you shop. I got the sweatshirt an it is very thick and cuddly.:D

Thanks again to NiroZ for coming up with and running the meta contest and thanks to everyone who participated and voted. I really enjoyed it and just wish I could have participated in more contests. Some day I really must play around in the editor and learn how to build.

As to the 8 timer prize, in that case I'll hold onto it and use it as a future prize for an upcoming unofficial contest if that's allowed.

I think that is a great idea!

I second noma's comments this was a very fun contest and I hope that those who ran contests will do more. :thumbsup

I'll just go on record as saying that these mini contest's are considered unofficial contests. Therefore you have jumped that hurdle if you ever wish to run an official contest.

And why not lead the way Techant ;)
