The Vorpal Bunny is very, very fast. Every turn, it moves as far as it can in one direction, only to return on the following turn. If Beethro is in the Vorpal Bunny's way, he is killed. If another monster is in the Vorpal Bunny's way, it is unharmed, as the Vorpal Bunny will just leap over it to get to its destination. The usual obstacles, including tar and serpents, will stop the Vorpal Bunny's progress across the room. The only way to kill a Vorpal Bunny is to attack it while it's resting between moves.

Now, to restate what's above:

When you place the Vorpal Bunny, it must face one of North, South, East or West. Every turn it will go as far as it can in the provided direction, then turn 180 degrees. The following turn it will go as far as it can in that direction, and turn. It does not take a turn for the Vorpal Bunny to turn, it happens instantly. The Vorpal Bunny can only kill Beethro if he walks in the Bunny's way, it will not turn to attack sideways. Beethro can be standing right next to the Vorpal Bunny, and if he's not in front of it then he's safe. If Beethro's sword is moved in to the Bunny, the Bunny dies, but if the Bunny leaps across Beethro's sword it lives, as it just goes over it.

Finally, if the Bunny's landing would cause it to land on another monster, it is dexterous enough to return to the next furthest empty space. If the only square that's not already occupied by another monster is the square the Vorpal Bunny is already in, it will move 0 squares and just turn around.

I love the Python reference here :thumbsup

But, about the monster now. I'm a tad confused as to "next furthest empty space" Does this mean that, while it will stay in the same row or column all the time, monsters and objects will stop it?

Would it obey force arrows?

Are the "usual obstacles" walls, doors, and pits?

Another thing I think ought to happen, if the Vorpal Bunny is as fast as you say it is, it ought to move before Beethro. (When Beethro starts to move, the Bunny senses and leaps quick.)

This way, Beethro would have to either step or swing to kill the bunny, instead of the bunny possibly landing on the sword and committing suicide. Because suicide is bad.

If Beethro is facing it with his sword, does he still get killed?

Let's say the Vorpal Bunny lands on a square that has a Roach in it. The Bunny then backs up a square. If that one has a monster in it as well, it backs up another.
Would it obey force arrows?
Nope
Are the "usual obstacles" walls, doors, and pits?
Yup

As stated previously, the sword must be moved in to the Vorpal Bunny to kill it, and if the Bunny goes through a square with the sword in it then it is unharmed. This would include landing in such a square.

And yes, if Beethro has his sword between him and the Vorpal Bunny he still dies.

I was just thinking...

Perhaps it should treat pits as roaches/monsters. If it is jumping, it should be able to cross a pit, but if the pit is adjacent to the wall, it would stop at the edge of the pit.

What if it turned 90 degrees instead (counter clockwise or clockwise)? This might open up other possibilities. A 180 moving one would be more tightly controlled, while a 90 degree one would be interesting to try to catch and deal with, especially with other monsters. Maybe it should go clockwise for 30 turns, then switch counterclockwise for the next 30 turns, then switch back... etc.

I like possibilities of having both.

I say stick to the 180. That way, the player won't have to look to see where it is going every turn.

I don't think I clearly indicated the situation I was talking about. My fault. If the sword is *already* where the Bunny will land...oh, wait. It wouldn't matter if it goes before or after, with the backing up bit. Never mind.

What if every single square between obstacles is taken up by a monster?

And here's a perhaps more visually appealing idea. It would take one move to cross, during which it would be a huge blur and unkillable, but it stops at each side, when it can be killed.

He already said if there is no room, then it will just turn.

The blur could be good...if it didn't make the monsters jumped over unseeable.

What if it gets caught in a square loop in which all the squares are covered by monsters?

...then it will use its turn to turn. Eventually those monsters are going to move or be slain, so until then, it will simply keep rotating 180 degrees every turn.

Bunnies don't have wings. ;) Maybe it will just come down on top of a monster.

Yes, it should turn in place. It needs to clean its big nasty pointy teeth!

If the Bunny doesn't have anywhere to move to, then it doesn't move, and just turns in place. I don't understand what's so confusing about this concept.

This is a nifty critter, and I think that if it's implemented it'll make for some fascinating adventures...

EXAMPLE:

Beethro enters a room, and sees a roach in a yellow-door-box. He immediately looks around for an orb, and finds it. But in between him and the orb is a horde of... VORPAL BUNNIES!

Now, how to get rid of the rodents?

This seems like something a Loonie would keep as a pet, or, in extreme circumstances, wield. This is right up there with Turn Self To Goo, Summon and Taunt Cthulu, and the infamous +3 Kleenex.

Those that got the above and know where the source is, please post a link. I saw it a long time ago and can't seem to find it again.
