There should be trapdoors with a number on them which shows how many times you have to walk on it.

What do you think? :smartass:

I can see some puzzle potential. What about having monsters traversing the trapdoors also lowering the numbers?

I don't think it should be like that beacaus the monsters can't do that on normal trapdoors :thumbsdown

How about monsters can reduce it but not completely drop it?

I see the puzzle potential...but I also see people like Hawk, Clayton, and Wesley getting their hands on it and making puzzles that will take hours to go through the right paths.

I think one-time trapdoors are enough. Besides, how would you justify a trapdoor that basically fails the first 32 times, and then works on the 33rd?

Justification isn't required. This is a fantasy world anything you want can be put in and explained by magic.

With a limit of 9 times. Or maybe even only 5, because otherwise it becomes extremely tedious to have to step on a trapdoor 50 times. But it's a good idea, yes.

Perhaps they should be crumbly trapdoors? :D

The trapdoor is crumbly, of course, and when it is stepped upon, bits of it that fell off fly back up and reattach themselves to the trapdoor. This process happens a variable number of times until the trapdoor becomes normal again. Then it collapses. It's reverse logic, of course.

I see.....

Would monsters drop them then?

In 1.7 I think there's supposed to be a "Mole" which digs underground. Could it drop them?

It shouldn't. Moles are not supposed to create trapdoors, just create them.

Do you mean "They are not supposed to *drop* trapdoors"?

If it's a crumbly trapdoor, there's a bunch of crumbly stuff beneath it. So couldn't the mole eat that away?

I was just thinking of a trap door that's slightly stronger than the others, but each time you go over it it loses some of its strength. Like in the first Space Quest game, when you're walking over that bridge, and after 5 times it collapses, and you can see it getting visibly weaker (the things they could do with 16 colours back then :D )

It wasn't really a puzzle, just Sierra being cruel. You could cross the bridge seven times, which was just enough to read the sign on each door before you had to find its key. You got 1 point every time you crossed the bridge.

They also had a bridge like this in Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist. At least, it said it was going to fall. I always felt cheated when it never did.
