This is not an "
open letter"
. I am not posting this here to invite conversation. I am not posting this here as some sort of public defense of my reputation. I would much prefer to speak with Lucas privately instead blathering about our business in public. But I have no way to contact him, so I am posting publicly in hopes that he will Google his own name one day and see this page.
Lucas, I've never really understood what happened back when you stopped talking to me. Even though I tried a number of times to reach you, it seemed you didn't want to explain. What you said in the blog comments surprised me, and I think you are reading a lot into the small amount I said in the interview about you. If you want to talk about this more, you can e-mail me at erikh@caravelgames.com.
But even if you will not contact me, would you please stop thinking I am "jealous" of you or trying to "get back" at you or trying to pretend you were inconsequential? Yes, you were my best friend. I was best man at your wedding. We hung out almost every weekend for years. It is still a mystery to me why you stopped talking to me. If anything, I should be mad at you, but jeezus, how can I be mad when I don't even know what the hell happened? You were always one for clearly and honestly communicating even when painful--so why don't you do that? I'm not worried about what you say publicly; I'm just disturbed that you are so upset with me, and I don't see why it should be that way.
