I solved some very hard and annoying rooms of level 8 but then my PC crashed and after rebooting I had to realize that DROD 1.6 doesn't save the player data each time a room is completed. Now. I would have to start all over again...

You can probably imagine that I won't touch my DROD for the next days, as I am a bit angry with him ;(

Please save the player data to disk each time a room is solved (or when a checkpoint is hit). And please save it first to a .new and make a .bak file, etc in case the PC crashes while writing the updated player data.

Hmmm, actually, I think something like this was implemented in a recent patch to DROD. How recently did you download the game?

Two copies of the dat files should be saved, and if upon starting DROD one of them gets corrupted, the previous version will be loaded up. So you might lose some progress but at least you won't lose all of it.

If this happens a lot it could be symptomatic of a larger problem. If your computer crashes a lot, quitting out after every room just to be safe could be a good idea, although it's not much fun.

Sorry it happened to you! :(

Game on,

If you'd like DROD to save your progress to disk more often, such as after beating a room, then all you have to do is ESCape out to the title screen (this saves your progress to disk), then hit Continue to keep playing.

This has happened to me several times where I've lost a lot of data. I find that I have to completely exit DROD before my data is saved.

Well guys, thanks for your responses.

But after that PC crash armageddon on level 8 I haven't touched DROD again. I'll just wait for a new DROD version that is more crash resistant. :?

I feel obligated to point out that it was probably a computer problem and not a game problem. In case it was a game problem though, why don't you post up your hardware specs and OS and the development team will see what they can see?
