I need someone who is good at making sound effects. This is for a DROD spin-off game that hasn't been announced yet. The job is to make 16 sound effects that fit specific descriptions. Pay is $10 per sound.
I'd prefer to find somebody from the DROD community to do this work for the following reasons:
* Testing the sounds involves running DROD and listening to the sounds play to make sure they sound right in the context of the other sounds. Somebody that knows how to play DROD and when sounds are heard inside of the game will have a much better idea of how to tune the sounds.
* It would be nice to not have to explain DROD.INI editing for sound replacements to an unDRODly contractor.
* To keep the spirit of community collaboration alive, it makes sense to recruit from the player ranks.
Qualifications for the sound designer:
* Needs at least a few days of free time in November to finish the project.
* Has experience editing sound effects and applying effects in a audio editing program like Audacity or CoolEdit.
* Ability to record new audio if needed.
* Understanding of intellectual property concepts like copyrights and licensing.
* Has played DROD enough to understand how sound effects work inside of it.
* Has all the software and hardware needed to do the project NOW. I don't want to start with someone and then hear stuff like "
I've got my computer in storage now cuz I'm moving, but I'll be over at my friend's house next weekend and I think I can maybe probably use his setup."
* Is 21 or over. (I'll say this is more of a preference than a requirement. We have to get your parent/guardian to sign a contract on your behalf if you are under 21.)
If you are interested, and meet the above requirements, then you can apply by coming up with a sample and posting it here. Here's details on that:
* The sample corresponds to a frog dying. In the game, there is an element called a "
frog captain"
and it works exactly the same as a brain. In fact, we are just modding the brain cosmetically to look like a frog with a little hat on him. When the last frog captain in a room dies, instead of the shutting down sound we have now, we want something to indicate there are no more frog captains in the room. This sound could be literally, a frog dying, or it could be something else--maybe a flourish of trumpets.
* You can post the sample in WAV, OGG, or MP3 format. For WAV, if your file size is more than a 100K (maybe multiple takes or something) then compress it in a ZIP or RAR archive.
* You can include multiple samples.
* Please choose whatever licensing you are comfortable with when you attach the file. If you want to give it away to the world with public domain, no worries. If you want to reserve all rights, also not a problem. We won't use your sample without a signed contract in any case.
* Please don't ask a bunch of follow-up questions about how the sample should sound or what it should accomplish. Just make a guess based on what I've written. I'll take into account that you might get closer to what I want with more communication.
We won't use the sample without signing a contract with you.
* Indicate in your reply the steps you took to come up with your sounds. It is okay to use existing samples if you say where you got them and the licensing allows you to use them. It is okay to use any combination of recording, synthesizing, after-effects, and reuse (existing samples from elsewhere). I admit, that I'll be more impressed if you can show ability to record or synthesize sounds, but the most important thing is coming up with a pleasing result.
I know a bunch of people are curious about the new game. Just signed the publisher deal. I'll announce it in the next Illumination. Please don't clutter up this topic with questions or speculation related to the new game. For the moment, I'll just tell you that it is codenamed "
Frogs and Mice"
.
