Okay, so I'm just playing through BoyBlue's Twenty-Three rooms. I've played a few rooms using 3.1.0.45, but I just upgraded to the 3.1.0.47 that's currently attached to the Patch thread since I wanted to see whether going backwards through demos with double placement has stopped screwing up, which it seems it has.

(Though there seems to be a bit of a mixup in the patch thread since 3.1.0.47 is listed twice in the notes... should the second one be a peek into 3.1.0.48?)

Anyway, after playing the very next room in said hold, I waited for my high score placement to show up, but... nada.

Going back to the room in question (First Level: 2E), I can see the demos on CaravelNet just fine (so the server must have acknowledged me conquering the room), but no demo has been recorded of my victory - and yes, saving victory demos is of course turned on.

I've also restored to this room's room start save, played through it without restarting or undo-ing, and still nothing. The same happens in another room I've tried.

Also, I'm getting a message that some of my existing demos are suddenly corrupted, when they play back perfectly fine...

Help?

EDIT: I'm currently 7zipping up my DAT-files, so if one needs them to diagnose this just give me a holler PM me.

Yes, I'll correct the typo.

So, if I understand you correctly, by demos not recording, you mean CaravelNet is not accepting your room conquer demos on the server?

If this is what you mean, then this is the expected behavior for a little bit longer. We've discussed with Syntax on one or two bug threads how the server will not accept the validity of demos recorded in 3.1 until the spider is likewise upgraded to 3.1 from 3.0. Once that occurs, all submitted demos will be reverified with respect to 3.1 behavior. Until then, please be patient. The scores will show up when we reach that point.

That would be what he means. Given the fact that the majority of demos are complaining of being corrupt (likely checksum errors), and that victory demos are failing to save, I'd say there's definitely something seriously screwy going on ^_^;

No, I meant there isn't any demo of my victory created even if I'm not connected to CaravelNet, i.e. I conquer the room, go back to it, hit F6 and am greeted with "(No demos were recorded here.)" *PLUS* it says that a lot (but not all) of my pre-existing demos that I recorded with 3.1.0.45 are corrupt even though they play back just fine.

Someone else mentioned in another thread I think that the checksumming for demos might be wonky - could this be the reason demos don't even get recorded?

EDIT: And yes, I'm perfectly aware that the spider will automatically drop demos created with a newer version than the spider is running - but the way it is now I (and most probably also the server) don't even have a demo that could be revalidated.

Okay, gotcha. I'd like help reproducing this on my end. Would someone describe a situation with a hold where it's quick and simple to reproduce this after importing the hold afresh?

I'm not ruling out this could be an issue, but normally I'd say checksums don't at all affect whether demos get recorded in the first place. They just affect the description, which in turn ultimately affects whether victory demos are accepted by the spider.

Here you go - doesn't get much more basic than this. Just conquer the entrance room by slaying the ferocious roach in it and run into the other room... *BAM*, no demo recorded for the first room.

EDIT: I *did* get one for the exit room when I left via the stairs... strange, huh?

Okay, that helped! I've fixed the bug -- just a typo I inserted in a fix for build 47. Now demos are recording correctly again in build 48. (The fix didn't affect exiting a room via stairs -- just by stepping off the room edge.)

*bump*

Using .54, I can't seem to get a demo recorded for "Think outside the box: TOTB3: 1W". There's nothing in drod err but I'm guessing it could be associated with this thread (I've never personally had this issue before with any version I tested).

Is there anything I can post/attach which could help debug this?

Working now... I did notice at the time that the site was slow and uploading demos seemed to take ages (1 min +). Maybe local demo saving is affected by these factors?
