Heya!

I currently own Game Maker 5, but I have some questions to ask you guys about it:

-Where can you download additional actions?
-What are all the variables and functions?
-On the site, there was a 3-D game. How was it done?
-Do you need to register to play downloaded games?

That's all I can think of for now.

Um, I have Game Maker 5.0, because in 5.1 they actually lock some features that you can use in 5.0.

Here are some answers to your questions:

1. I don't know what you mean by "additonal actions". Must be new to 5.1.

2. All the varibles and functions are listed in the help file. It also tells you how to make your own varibles and functions.

3. The 3D game was done with 2D sprites that were scaled to make it look like it gets closer and farther. Then for the walls, all they do is simple geometry to figure out what the wall would look like at that angle.

4. No, you do not have to register to play d/l'ed games.

I don't have the program installed, but wouldn't this be covered in a help file or some online manual? I don't mean to come off as beligerant, just offering up other options.

Indeed - the Game Maker manual is quite comprehensive, and should answer any queries - if not try the website.

Not that much with data files. For instance, what exactly is the index to get the file from?

Anyway, I might consider joining the Game Maker forum to ask about this, but mainly for questions I have.

I remember when I was much younger I used to love getting Construction Set games. Let me see if I can count the games...

Lode Runner
Adventure Construction Set
Bard's Tale Construction Set
Unlimited Adventures
Warlords II

Of course there are many others, but those are the ones I remember using myself. At the time I didn't have access to the Internet or any BBS's or anything like that so I did it purely for my own nerdy amusement. Sigh...I remember making some really devilish rooms for Lode Runner too, all long gone...

I built over a hundred levels each for Ultimate Wizard and Demon Stalkers (Gauntlet clone) on the Commodore 64. I love building games! Those were the days!

I never knew bards tale had a construction kit. I really liked that game when it came out. Had a book that I mapped the levels in.

Yeah, it came out after Dragon Wars, which was based on the later Bard's tale engines. I really only put any hours into Bard's Tale III, but I had to get the Construction Set...I mean, it was a Construction Set! I played around with it a few times but didn't really make anything though.
