Yup.

I was trying to think of some way to incorporate the fact that in both Dave and Wild Wild West Kevin Kline actually plays both the president and a man impersonating the president, but I figured that would be a dead giveaway.

Okay, next one:

1. A defense attorney
2. A hacker in dystopia
3. An antisocial patriarch

Nope, sorry. Good guess, though. (I haven't seen your #1 or #3s.) Let me amend:

3.An antisocial patriarch with a genial manner.

Oops. Talk about needing to read carefully. I just noticed your 3rd clue reads "patriarch". I thought is was "pariah." Maybe it's time for reading glasses?

Okay, I know I'm AlefBet's brother, but even I got quite stumped on this one. I've figured it out for certain but I'll wait a little before guessing, since my familiarity with AlefBet's viewing habits may make it bad form to guess too quickly. If you need any hints, though, I or he can probably give them. If this takes too long, however, I'll just make my guess and post a new one.

I find it impossible to imagine how number 2 would work, but: Gene Hackman?
(1 is Runaway Jury, and 3 is The Royal Tenenbaums).

Sorry, it's not Gene Hackman. Also, if my memory is correct, he wasn't actually an attorney in Runaway Jury, but a consultant to the defense. But I expect I could have given that to you anyway if you'd gotten a #2. (I haven't seen your #3, though.)

Okay, a clue: One of these movies I expect most people won't have seen unless they follow MST3K.

Man, did I kill the game? :( Okay, here's a few more clues. According to IMDB, this actor received:
1. Third Billing (A defense attorney)
2. Second Billing (A hacker in dystopia)
3. Second Billing (An antisocial patriarch with a genial manner)

Adam - I think at this point, you need to give much more blatant hints than that if you want people to guess. The hints you've been giving are the kind that would help someone who has several ideas and is unsure how to narrow them down; I think the problem for most of us (definitely for me) is that I have no idea at all.

And Garlonuss, I think you should go ahead and guess if you think you know.

Okay, eytanz, here it is.

Raul Julia
1- Presumed Innocent
2- Overdrawn at the Memory Bank (This one was featured on MST3K)
3- The Addams Family / Addams Family Values

Here's a list that may be a bit easier, but who knows.

1- A boxing promoter in bad need of a stylist
2- A police lieutenant with a machine problem
3- A captain in space

No takers? Okay, if you'd like, here is a clue.

All of my characters are from series. The first one is a TV series (as a guest star, not a main character) and the other two are from movie series that have more than 3 movies each and a new sequel in each series already at some level of preparation. (But this actor only appeared in one movie in each series, and repeat appearances are highly unlikely for these characters.)

Wow, I hope I didn't kill my own game. Here's another set of hints.

general - this actor passed away in the first half of 2004.

1- the boxing promoter is from an animated show
2- The police lieutenant ... well, there's nothing much to say about him except what I already said.
3- this is a starship captain that has an ... um ... 'ear'y problem.

Okay, I've been racking my brains on this one and I can't get anyone who fits them all. Wild guess:

Tony Cox as Bubba the dwarf from "Faerie Tale Theatre: Snow White and the Seven Dwarves"

Here are some more clues.

1. a punk rock star
2. an innocent escaped convict

Googling for Ewan McGregor (a rock star in Velvet Goldmine) with "dwarf", which got me to John Leguizamo (a dwarf in "Moulin Rouge"), and googling on him with "escaped convict" got me a reference to the answer:

1. Sid Vicious, in Sid and Nancy
2. Sirius Black, in various Harry Potter movies
3. Rolfe, in Tiptoes

...all played by Gary Oldman.

2. A defector's assistant
3. The monarch of a (fictional) European country

1- Victor/Victoria
2- Possibly Sound of Music though it may be a bit of a loose application of the description
3- The Princess Diaries or Shrek 2

I'm not sure if Shrek takes place in a European country, even a fictional one, but The Princess Diaries does; and she was a defector's assistant (and wife) in the Hitchcock film Torn Curtain. I wondered how long people might be thrown off by "female impersonator"; not long, apparently.

Yeah, well, the first thing that came to my mind when I thought about female impersonators was To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, Connie and Carla and Victor/Victoria. From there, I had a limited pool of actors to work with.

Okay, how about ...
1- An NSA agent
2- A US admiral
3- A genie
