It's only three levels and the difficulty may not be entirely consistent, but here it is. (And I'll be the first to say that I may take more pleasure in the new cutscene engine than maybe I should.) I welcome any and all suggestions to improve it.

Can we please not have holds ripping off the excellent hold "Beethros day off "? Even if it's just the title. :(

I'm sure it's just a innocent mistake, but it does cause confusion among forum members.

Not that I particularly care one way or another, but I really have a hard time seeing how a different hold title could generate much confusion. It's a matter of a few seconds to check the hold author, and to realize that it's not the same person. I haven't looked at this hold at all, so I don't know if the title is intended to be a parody, tribute, or totally unrelated, but it's not like it's being called 'Beethro's Second Day Off' or 'Beethro's Day Off Part Deux'.

Nah, that'd be copying another topic's title too much. How about:
"Revenge of Beethro's Day Off Strikes Back 2: Electric Boogaloo"?

Yeah, I realize what it looks like, but in all seriousness, I didn't even know there was a hold called "Beethros day off" until I checked to see if my hold name was taken. I had just never tried that hold out. Others, yes, but not that one.
(And, to be honest, it won't even be placed anywhere near that hold in the hold browser, so I don't see much confusion coming from this title.)

If anyone has a suggestion for a different title, feel free to suggest it, but since the story in this hold is about how Beethro is trying (unsuccessfully) to take a day off, the title I chose just seemed to fit.

I just realized that I hadn't uploaded the latest version of this hold. I just replaced the attatchment at the beginning of this thread with the latest version. The only differences are at Beethro's Home 2N1W and some force arrows in the third level.

Okay, I've posted a new version of the hold. This one has an added secret room in the third level. Some of the rooms in the third level have also been modified to make it easier to go through them a second time after they've been beaten once.

Well, my first thought was Beethro's Nightmarish Vacation, but Beethro's Nightmare is used so thats not really any better.

Maybe one of these?

Busy Beethro's Broken Break
Vacation of the Damned
Some People Just Can't Get a Break

Okay, I've been testing through this one and I've fixed a few errors I found. I've also changed the name of the hold to line up a little better with what actually happens in the story. I've replaced the file in the first post and welcome any and all suggestions. If nobody has anything to say, though, I think it's about ready to be submitted to the holds board.

It looks like there haven't been a lot of outside comments on this hold even though it's been on the Architecture board for quite a while.

And now it's up for promotion.

Let me offer a few comments that I've noticed up to this point:

1) Beethro's Home: 2N has a bomb that seemingly encourages efficient fegundo use. However, there's nothing locking you in place once you step on the fuse, so really it's just pointless. It doesn't affect the solution of the room, so I'm not sure you could even call it an unintended solution.

2) Beethro's Home: 2E appears to be unsolvable. You can drop the green door relatively easily, but there doesn't appear to be any way to actually exit from the room.

3) Beethro's Home: 1E. Is it possible to read the scroll in-game?

Josh

1) Beethro's Home: 2N - Thanks for pointing that out. I had arrows there to force you to stay at one time. I'm not sure when they got deleted. I've added an updated hold.

2) Beethro's Home: 2E - It's not unsolveable. There's a hidden path behind the green door that leads up to the platform up top.

3) Beethro's Home: Entrance. - I assume you mean 1E. Yes, that scroll is readable in-game. You get to it from the room below.

I can get to the platform up top, but I can't get to the exit. I can't bring the platform close enough to reach the exit square...

[EDIT: I've attached a screenshot of my progress. The lightpost blocks further vertical movement.]

Okay, one question. I haven't installed the newest patch or anything yet, so maybe this is just something I'm unaware of, but does the new patch make it so that the platforms can't move under the lights? If so, that's where the problem is. I can move up easy when I test it, but then I created that entire level well before the patch was released, and I never considered that it could be broken because of that.

I have replaced the hold file so that the platform is now long enough.

Are you sure that this is the newer version? I notice that the hold name has reverted back to 'Beethro May Take A Day Off', and when I try to import it I get a warning saying that it's an earlier version of an installed hold.

I have to echo Josh's comments about this not being a new version. I am stuck in the same place, having cleared 2E, the light post prevents me from moving the platform to exit.

Also, there are no force arrows in 2N to keep you from departing before the bomb blows up.

My understanding is that there is a newer upload that is actually the corrected one. I haven't looked at it yet, though.

One other note:

In 1S1E, there's extra fog on the one-square border surrounding the room. Wraithwings can go in there and seem to vanish (you can still see them, but only just). Not a bug, but a weird design thing.

Funny, I didn't think mine was an intended solution either as I never sent Beethro into the area down left, just the fegundo.

I just checked the fixed bugs list, and in fact this was a fixed bug fairly early on. So 3.0.0 wouldn't have had a problem with your hold, but any subsequent patch probably would.

Moot now, as it's fixed. Thanks!

Josh

Perhaps I am missing an easy way to do this but Escape 1N seems unnecessarily hard as a result of the tar doors that pop up when you clean up the green guck.

That was intentional to make it so that you need to leave a small patch of Gel on the other side of the doors so that you can keep the door down until after you get out of there.

Escape 1N, 2E - if you intended that all of the floating platforms in the lower right be used, there is a solution that avoids all of that.

I don't think you need all of them. But you do need at least one of them, I'm pretty sure.

I solved it using just the initial floating platform which you reach after going through the tunnel.

Did you do this with the newest version of the hold? It used to be possible to circle around and step on the disarm token again and just kill the rattlesnake with your sword. But Garlonuss uploaded a new version of the hold that made it necessary to actually lure the rattler down to the floor area with the other disarm token. A lot harder...

If you found a way around that, though, my hat's off to you.
