Yes, I am a dork, and a math dork. But I just found this and I had to share it with people who I think might just care. Find strings of digits in pi to the 100 millionth place here!

Fun new toy...

Hmmm. If you translate the 4 letters of my name - 13 01 18 11 - it can't be found. Omit the 0 from the 1 - giving 13 1 18 11 - and there's 9 results. Weird.

And I'm sure you all really wanted to know that. :D

The page explains this phenomena:

If your string of numbers is 8 digits long, then you only have about a 63% chance of finding it, and it just so happened that your number was one of the 3700000 that did not appear, but by reducing the length to 7, as you did by removing the "0", you increased the probability of finding it to 99.995%. It appears that 1311811 is one of those sets of numbers that does appear in the first 100 million digits of Pi.

:)

What a fun and pointless toy! I typed in my birthday and got plenty of results. Only a 6 character string, so I guess I have a very high probability of finding it. :D

It takes less time to do the search than it did for you to type the post saying you didn't have time to do it...

Game on,

here's a question, can anyone find the highest pair of consecutive numbers that occur consecutively?

i.e. at some point you have 808182

$the_question =~ /^(BB|[^B]{2})$/

And are we limited to 2 digit numbers? I.E 100101>8182>2122, and the more #s the better, like 202122>10001001?

This is getting confusing...

the bigger the numbers, the better.

If 59885989 occurs somewhere, that sure beats out 8081 :D
