I feel terrible for starting a topic on this room (since it means no one has had trouble with it before), but I'm starting to get frustrated.

I can get no more than two aumtlich stuck on the mirror, leaving me trapped by the remaining two before I can get rid of all the tar.

Is it possible two get three of them trapped by the mirror? Should I alternate between which aumtlichs are stuck on the mirror? Do I need to move the mirror during the tar clearing? Or must I rely on tar babies to block the aumtlichs' vision?

It is possible to trap three of them on the mirror - I did. The important thing to know is that you can't trap three at right angles to each other.

Try it from a different angle.

Asymmetry? Yuck, I hate that! :thumbsdown (probably because I'm horrible at noticing it ;)) Did the trick, though. Thanks, Josh.

You can actually trap all 4 at right angles to each other. Start like this:
B=Beethro
-=sword
g=aumtlich gaze
A=aumtlich
M=Mirror

M B-gA

then move NE W

Oho, clever. You should post that as a Challenge: Solve the room without moving the mirror. Just make sure there's no link to the above post.

I really did not understand that... All I get is:
Start:
M B-ggggA

Then one move NE:

   B-gggA
M
And W:
  B-ggggA
M

You can only do it if you start exactly 3 spaces from the aumtlich. by being that close the aumtlich will turn instead of moving north, then turn back when you move west.

I have finished TCB and am going back to get all the secret rooms so I can play the bonus level. I can see where this room is on the hints page map but can't find out how to get into this room. Please give me some help to find out how to get into the room to complete it.

Thanks

It's a long trip through crumbly walls, starting from one of the rooms immediately adjacent to the secret room...

Thanks for the reply. Which adjacent room?

I found it. Thanks again.

Ignore this post please. As soon as asking for help, I again solved it on my own. Amazing.

All right, I managed to finish JtRH only with some reading the forum, but for this secret room, I'll have to post :blush. So, I succeed in trapping 3 auntliches, but after that, I'm stuck in a wrong quadrant of the room, that is I cannot proceed without losing a lock of an auntlich, like this :

   A
   g
   g
   MgggA
   g
   g B
   A

Any clue ? A demo ?

It looks like you're trying to cut the outside of the tar. That's hard!

Well, I did exactly this. Things get complicated when I have to remove the tar "curtain". Especially the last side : even with two aumtliches trapped, the remaining two are then blocking further movement for my poor Beethro...

For the moment, H&S magic (that is, when you find the solution right after posting) has not helped me much :-/

If you're having trouble eliminating all the blue tar, it's helpful to try to keep as many blobs of it as you can three tiles wide. You can always remove a rectangle that is 3 tiles wide in one dimension. In general, you'll probably need to use tricks like having a tar baby block one aumtlich beam while it is approaching you and you simultaneously deal with another aumtlich. I've attached my demo. It's far from optimal, and the top demos have much cleaner ways of doing things, but it works.
