I wasn't exactly sure where to put this.

After designing a room (a damn good one, mind you), I quit the game by pressing escape until the program closed. When I restarted DROD later, I got the message about my data being corrupted and restoring to the last safe version. Fine, I was semi-pissed, but I remade the room, and quit the same way. I restarted DROD, and the same message appeared, and of course, my room was gone again. I made a minor change to another room of mine, and pushed escape to return to the editor, I clicked on "return to game" to go to the title screen, then I clicked on "Quit", then clicked on "yes." When I restarted DROD, there were no errors. However, I removed the change that I made to my room, then pushed escape until the game closed. I restarted, and my data was corrupted again.

My data only gets corrupted when I use escape on the title screen.

This is on the 1.6 release.

I use Escape to exit exclusively, so when my data got corrupted I am sure I used it. Of course, I have exited hundreds of times without data corruption in this way. Perhaps it is when you hit Escape quickly and it is trying to load something up? And my corruption came after using the editor too, probably. It would be good to hear from other people who also saw the corruption bug...

Game on,

Clayton, please! Post all six of your data files here ASAP!Don't change anything else, and tell us exactly what we can do to reproduce this bug with the data files exactly the way they are. (That might mean posting them, and then figuring out how to make the corruption happen again! We've got to find this at all costs!)

I've got good news and bad news.
Bad news: I didn't read your post in time, and so I changed things in my hold already.
Good(?) news: The corruption still takes place if I use Escape to quit.

Attachment: six files: three dats, and three other ones. Are those the ones you want? If not, let me know the names of them.

To recreate the corruption, just do as I explained in the first post.

FYI, I replaced the dat files (and backups) with Clayton's and tried this several times in Linux*, but was unable to reproduce the problem.

* At a university pc (*cough*) without a soundcard. Imagine my surprise when the pc speaker started playing the intro music at full volume! ('twas pretty good quality, too.)

All right... I somehow got that corruption message to pop up each time I run DROD and exit. That's good news. I'm looking at all six of the .dat files, though, and don't see anything wrong with them at first glance. This is interesting... I'll get back to you as I find out more.

Woo hoo! Found the bug!

Clayton, you're the man! You saved the day, again. The .dats were getting corrupted on startup, rather than when closing DROD. And Erik's .dat duplication backup process was able to help us catch it and nip it in the bud. It's a Windows problem, so this bug won't appear on Linux. For Windows users, though, a patch will be released today!
