After updating a hold, DROD will check for demo and savegame compatibility and remove demos and saves that are no longer valid.

Could we perhaps have some feedback whether demos were removed or not, like "10 demos removed" in the result dialog? Or could invalid demos just be flagged instead of being outright removed?

Sometimes I'd very much like to see where it now breaks so that I can fix that - often I simply don't remember what I did in the old version... :)

I guess that beta testers and HAs would be very interested in this, and probably other people as well...

I would even suggest another logfile where the room location of the invalidated demos is written to, akin to DROD.err (but not there, since it's not really appropriate)...

np: Star You Star Me - Perfect Day (Simple Things)

You mean something like drod.log, where this information is currently put?

It is? That doesn't explain the total absence of a DROD.log from both my TCB and JtRH installation, though...

And especially the latter had more than enough demos that were invalidated on updates...

Or does one have to flick a switch somewhere for a DROD.log to be generated?

np: Nine Horses - Wonderful World (Snow Borne Sorrow)

I don't have a drod.log in my JtRH folder, but in the Data folder of TCB it's there, and it has a list of the demos and saved games that were broken when I imported my player.

Yeah, well - me importing my demos is depending on getting a revision of JtRH that will actually export my player... ;)

But still - could we perhaps just keep invalidated demos, just like sometimes you can still download invalid demos from CaravelNet? If they're marked as corrupted and don't get uploaded again, there's not much harm done, right?

np: Nine Horses - The Banality Of Evil (Snow Borne Sorrow)

Since 3.0, yes, so don't expect to find that file in any JtRH folder. I'm not sure why you can't find it in your TCB folder, though, except if you haven't yet had a demo or savegame broken by a player import/hold update. You're certain that you're looking in the right place, right?

If you set ValidateSavesOnImport to 0 in drod.ini you'll keep invalidated demos, although with that set you won't be notified which demos broke...
