It doesn't have to be easy to say to be an acronym. Look at this definition of Three Letter Acronym:

/T-L-A/ n. [Three-Letter Acronym]
1. Self-describing abbreviation for a species with which computing terminology is infested.
2. Any confusing acronym. Examples include MCA, FTP, SNA, CPU, MMU, SCCS, DMU, FPU, NNTP, TLA. People who like this looser usage argue that not all TLAs have three letters, just as not all four-letter words have four letters. One also hears of `ETLA' (Extended Three-Letter Acronym, pronounced /ee tee el ay/) being used to describe four-letter acronyms. The term `SFLA' (Stupid Four-Letter Acronym) has also been reported. Anyway, i pronounce "DROD" as one word, with norwegian accent, like this: "DRÅDD". (The Å ( Å ) is a vowel, something like a mix between A and O, but not quite.)

True, some acronyms are better pronounced as actual words, and some of them have even stopped being capitalized. But those ones actually sound good when you don't spell them out.

Pronouncing it "drawed" or any other way really seems like a verbal defacement of this great game. Just try saying both ways out loud, and see which sounds more impressive, never mind how many precious seconds it wastes. D-R-O-D suggests there's actually something behind the letters. Calling it "drawed" seems almost criminal. It's just wrong. You can't describe DROD in just one syllable; it's such a great game, you need four. D-R-O-D sounds like a game. DROD sounds like an insult, or perhaps a new swear word. In just the same way that M-I-D-I sounds like the incredible system of music-making that it is, and MIDI sounds like the name of your pet hamster. In just the same way that H-U-D sounds like a system of displaying information, and HUD sounds... horrible.

I always just pronounced it DROD, it never crossed my mind to say it differently. Come to think of it, I pronounce most acronyms. Even things like "LOL" I pronunce in one syllable, I don't spell it out. I guess when I'm reading it to myself, it's easier to say one syllable than spell out the letters.

I must be Sokko's arch nemisis because I say "MIDI" and "HUD" also.

So there's at least no crime in saying that, just say you speak dutch

Wow I never knew this thread existed and it kinda hurts me deep down to have this information due to its resurrection.... it's always been Dee-Rod to me =( oh well, at least my friends who I've introduced to it know what I'm talking about

On a side note, I've taken to saying "lol" out loud when I am amused. =(

and I turn my head to the right when I make an expression.

I say it "DROD". It only sounds like "Drahd" if you're American, and I can't think of any accent that would make it sound like "Drawed".

I say it "DROD" or "Drahd" or "Drawed", those all look identical to me...
Though I can and often do say "D-R-O-D" or "Deadly Rooms Of Death" if I feel like it.

I spell acronyms and say them as words interchangeably. I always spell out "LOL" and "HUD", yet always say "DROD" and "MIDI" as a word.
