Yep that's right. There are only a few hundred left in the wild. They are endemic to Mauritius and I hope they don't go the way of the Dodo.

That's not an armadillo at all, if only for the fact it's consistently scaled, without an accordion-like midsection.

It's a pangolin, the scaly anteater. Specifically, a Cape Pangolin.
