I've been playing here off and on for several months. Time to finish it off . . . I'm guessing the approach is something like the attached. However, even though it looks promising, it's not successful.

Do I even have the right philosophy?

Well, I'm not quite sure I can give you more tips short of a complete walkthrough or a demo - maybe you could post a demo of how you're faring so far, though...

Tadpoles? Sorry, doesn't ring a bell - and discogs.com isn't much help, either...

Still, I've always thought I had some weird taste in music - at least that's what I've got reaction-wise from friends and co-workers...

Well. I tried, and I tried, and . . . (etc.) Kinda unimaginative, but the steps above seem like the best chance for success. At least nothing I've tried looks at all promising.

The demo is as good as I can do at following instructions. (I also tried going around the east side of the tar body, with worse results.) What part of the big picture might I be missing?

I had success with the following procedure:

From there it's just horde management.
Some time I'll have to look at other demos for this room and see what they do. Edit: If you can figure out the strategy described above by Briareos you'll have a far easier time of it.

I can do your steps "1", "2", and "3" . . . this was one of many things I'd tried already. After step "3", though . . . doesn't work on this end.

I've attached another demo showing my interpretation of your move sequence. (Only 66 moves.) Any workable hints are appreciated.

I would be turning NE once the second wave of babies has spawned - immediately, or a turn after. Then you can turn E when the time is right, so you can move S and side-smite some babies. Brained monsters can be very well-behaved, really.

I've attached my own demo of steps 2-5. I did manage to complete the room after this point, though not without a few deaths.
