Hey, I almost missed it, so I thought I\'d point out Clayton\'s announcement. Y\'all oughtta vote for your favorite haiku. It\'s a cultural experience!

Will a winner be chosen based on the one haiku that got the most votes, or the person whose haikus recieved the most votes? What I mean is, if one person submitted two haikus and one gets four votes and the other gets five, and someone who only submitted one haiku gets six votes for it, will person one win because he had nine votes total, or will the other person win because his haiku recieved more votes than either of the others?

Sorry about this being confusing, I\'m rushed to write this. I have to go to my BC Calculus class in about one minute.

It\'s up to Clayton, but personally I feel the winner should be the one who wrote the most popular single haiku. It\'s a quality-over-quantity judgment.

That\'s how I was hoping it\'d be.

That\'s indeed how I planned it.

What is BC Calculus? Is it perhaps calculus as practised in Republican Rome?

Cheers

It\'s actually supposed to cover both calculus I and II for college, but you take it in high school. I think I preferred your explanation though. ;)

In high school, AP classes are ones that give you college credit for taking a special AP test. There are two AP calculus courses: AB and BC (most schools only offer AB). See, the calculus course is divided up into three parts: A, B, and C. The AB class only covers parts A and B, while the BC class covers all three. For those of you who know calculus, my BC class this year did derivatives, integrals, infinite series, and a few other small topics, such as calc in polar coordinates, differential equations, related rates, and imaginary numbers.

Will you take CIII at Webb? I took BC as well, and took CIII here@Wash. U. Pretty easy until the last quarter...that was some madness.

What\'s covered in CIII? I will be studying very high level mathematics at Webb, but most of it will be in relation to engineering and ship design.

You go to Washington U? What year are you and what\'s your major?

CIII starts out with vector calculus in three dimensions (cross&dot products), moves into some things like partial derivatives, which are REALLY easy, given that you understand regular derivatives, then there\'s some tangent planes, we covered Kepler\'s third law, and there\'s possibly some tougher stuff. Then, the madness ensued with line integrals. I did not like those at all, and that\'s the first thing about math which I can say that of. The professor I had made the class really easy...but everyone else complained about theirs. I do indeed go to WU, and I\'m a freshman with a math major, and possible minors in German, Drama, and Film studies.

The winner is Eytanz, for his second Haiku:

Room nearly complete
But safe in a blocked corner
One tar baby lives

Kinda brings a tear to your eye, doesn\'t it? *sniffle* Excuse me...

Congratulations Eytanz!

Erik should be getting in contact with you regarding your prize. (Decide whether you want a mousepad or a mug!)

I thought I set it to close automatically on the 20th... Damn, It\'s closed now. Eytanz is clearly the winner. I didn\'t get a single vote! And I\'m glad too, because it would be crappy to win my own contest. People might suspect something. -_-;

Wow... Cool... I was away from the Internet for a few days and discovered I won my first ever Haiku contest, and now I get a cool new DRoD mug - and just when I was getting tired of drinking tea at my office out of styrofoam cups, too!

And I didn\'t even have to vote for myself!

Thanks all,
Eytan
