It's a nice way of hiding things, yes. But it's only as secure as the keyword that you're using...

Anyway, here's mine:

74956 17717 973b0 d2502 3973d

And again, I'm uing jumps, not jumped.

I need a hint. It looks like something more advanced, since there are only 29 symbols (spaces included). :unsure

While we're waiting on another hint, here's another one:

XKEUVXIIVVGELSQINOLIXCOFPVJAKTUNI

I encoded: AQUICKBROWNFOXJUMPSOVERTHELAZYDOG

hint: I used the name Tim. Then I meanly changed Tim to Tom.

I thought that it being hex was obvious...

The clue is to make you think about each nibble. Not as a hex digit, but as 4 bits...

Ok, it's Morse, with 0s for dots and 1s for dashes. Difficult to decode without knowing how the dots and dashes are grouped, but we know what the sentence is, so it's easy to verify the encoding.

You got it.

I slammed it all together, ignoring the spacing, which probably made it a bit harder than I was expecting. It awould also make decoding a bit tricky as well if it were to be actually used this way...

That's either a clever Zak McKracken reference or steganography... :lol

Yes, it's either one or the other. No wait, it could also be something else, or both.

"you put it in a (cheap) mask" ? (i.e. I don't think you edited the image and hid the text in the image at all, I think you simply disguised it the way a fraternity guy disguises himself for a raid on a sorority)

as for michthro's guess about my entry:

Nope. It's simple, but not quite that simple.

Erm, no. I have no idea what I'm talking about. ;) (I have no plans for making a new puzzle right now...)

But silver, I can attest(?) that a sentence can be found in there. With "jumps".

The text is at the bottom of the image, very light. Here's the image altered so you can see it:

Yep. You can also find it by flood-filling the outer area with a dark colour. Tim, again, also got it but only hinted at it, because he's too lazy to make another one, so I suppose I'll give him a point. (I wasn't 100% sure, hence my response, which was a disguised "Did you get it or not, and if so, why aren't you saying how it works?")

That's what happens if you can touch type on a qwerty keyboard perfectly without looking at the keyboard, but type on a dvorak keyboard instead.

---

So now my entry is "official", I'll repeat it:

XKEUVXIIVVGELSQINOLIXCOFPVJAKTUNI

I encoded: AQUICKBROWNFOXJUMPSOVERTHELAZYDOG

hint: I used the name Tim. Then I meanly changed Tim to Tom (sorta).

I'm gonna answer anyway: I recognized it as dvorak from the time at work when a genius in the IT department accidentally pushed a "make dvorak default" SmS package to everyone's laptop, and I had to figure out how to type my password so I could install the patch. then I checked with google to make sure I was right.

Maybe they just have all spontaneously forgotten to bring their Enigma codebooks? ;)

well, apparently, different Enigma apps have variations on the advanced settings and yield different results, making it very difficult to reproduce my encoding without reading my mind :)

I used this: http://enigmaco.de/enigma/enigma.html
I set the wheels to TIM
Then in the lower right, I switched the I plug with the O plug ("changed tim to tom").

Ah, well. Tahnan was closest (he was on the right track, I confirmed via PM, but his application had different 'advanced settings' which I couldn't figure out how to correspond to switching the I plug with the O plug)

I didn't mean it to be, I just didn't realize that there were so many variations on the enigma thing, so when I used the first webpage that came up on wikipedia under external links that looked like a web-usable simulator, I thought I was using something commonish.
ah, well.
