Here's a dungeon I designed to bring you back to where it all started. It has a touch of everything, but it's not what it seems, so watch your back! (Can you find all six levels?)

OK let me get this straight...

If so, then a nice hold. Some nasty puzzles on level 2.

I've made it to level 5... the only room I haven't beaten is the one with the serpent and the tar...

And I was amazed I could clear the staircase room on level 2. WOO!

Nice job, thus far.

This was one of the toughest for me too.
And I was amazed I could clear the staircase room on level 2. WOO!
That was fun. :D

I just finished it. Very nicely done. The ambush level was interesting. Any plans to expand this idea to include a full 25 levels, mrimer ?

I saved that one for last. Here's what I did:

Oh, and it wasn't even worth it to me to find the secret staircase, although I might try again later.

I think it depends on which way you go...check out the hold in the editor once you beat it.

Thanks Scott... but, hmm... well I'd figured out the first hint, and the second hint didn't really give away anything to me... I must be really dense tonight, I'm still not seeing what I don't see, I'll take a look at it tommorrow.

Now that I see it, it is obvious, I even stared at it for some time thinking
Click here to view the secret text

That was really dense of me, but a clever play on expectations in the level design.

edit:
(by expectations I meant that you see that sort of construct in the normal dugan's but not ever used in that way)

Also...is it even possible to get past the room after the dungeon guards warning?

Yes, level one has turned into something almost resembling level 21. It is possible though. I would suggest looking at Eytanz' example with his one room "puzzle" with roach movement. (Not sure what it's called).

If you're stuck on the tough level 1 rooms, you can beat the rest of the dungeon and then check them out in the editor. If you're stuck elsewhere, yes, let us help you in the usual way. There's really only one room that relies on pure luck as far as I know (that snake and tar one), so if you can beat Dugan's you can beat this one.

I just wanted to say I keep coming back to this hold.

Especially the level two exit room. I had a long drawn out battle on my hands the first time I solved that room, as I had little control over the queens and many were escaping to verious corners.

I kept thinking there had to be a better way, and I found it...
228 moves, solved in under a minute. (see attached demo)

(btw, this room was part of the reason I made the bride of the arena hold.)

So, does anyone have any advice?

I posted a hint higher up in the thread on how I solved it, but that was in a beta version of DROD so I haven't played it through again with the final version, so I don't have a demo saved. It was basically luck for me too.

Game on,

Hmm...I would have to agree that there isn't a set of moves I would always take to beat this room, but I think the problem lies in the complexity (even...gasp...unpredictability?) of the serpent behavior, not in the puzzle itself, per se. If you have a good approach, getting the snake works itself out most times.
