Yeah, yesterday I went to a Best Buy, and it was so crowded I could barely get in the fickin' store!! I heard that they only had a couple hundred in stock, so everyone there was creating a riot. Bad time to go to Best Buy, I suppose, but I had forgotten about the PS3 in all the hype about the Wii.

So then, after I got the CD I wanted (thank GOD it was on display in the front of the store, you couldn't even get into the aisles!) and the guy in front of me was getting really aggravated about not having anymore PS3's in stock. He finally left, and I go my CD. I left pretty quickly after that.

Whew! I'd hate to see what it's like tomorrow at Best Buy for the Wii! I also hope they have enough in stock, so I can buy one for Christmas!

Ezlo, when you get it, could you post some comments about it here? I'd love to hear it! Have fun everyone who pre-ordered the Wii!

I'm actually working Electronics tonight, so I'll be the one directing the campers (We're only a small town, so the people will only come earlier in the evening). I was actually working Customer Service the night before the PS3 release, and the1st person in line came at approximately six o'clock, with the final person coming around 9:20 (Being a smaller store, we only received six collective consoles). In contrast, right now, as we speak (In a very well-hidden spot in our store), we have at least 18 Nintendo Wiis in stock, all of which will be gone as of 7:00AM tomorrow.

I'm not too concerned about getting a Wii tomorrow, so I didn't even try to pre-order one. Sears is going to have them, Costco will have them, and there are tons of Targets, Best Buys, and the like near me so I am 95% positive I will get one. And if not, I'll have one within a few weeks. Certainly nothing at all like the PS3 and XBox 360 launches.

Speaking of the 360, there's a place near me that is selling them with $100 mail-in rebates, so I may pick one up as well since it will probably be a very long time before the price goes down. And with my new TV it will be nice to get some real high resolution gaming. Which is also a concern to me about the Wii that if I can't get the component video cables (which are sold out online and 3rd party ones aren't yet available) it might actually look worse than my Gamecube. But eventually it will all be good, and I still technically have a few weeks left of Final Fantasy XII and I really like this one so I want to beat it. :P

Game on,

Game on,

Reportedly a few retailers will have component cables - Best Buy is one of them. As for getting one, I'm going to be up at 6 am tommorrow. If I don't get one, so be it, it's not worth any longer of a wait. But considering the number of places selling them, and the volume, I think that if I'm up at that hour I should be near-guarenteed one. And plus, if I go to somewhere like Futureshop, it's only a 2-hour wait.

I'll post one.... eventually. :rolleyes It depends on how long it will take to pull Bunches and I away from Zelda and Wii Sports. At the latest I'll put my comments up Monday night after I make the polls.

I too have a Wii. You may notice that my posts from yesterday, and for this week, are not up to their usual standard of quantity.

I waited for one for 15 hours yesterday, and enjoyed most of the time. Unfortunately, it was cold, so I didn't want my hands to get frostbite, and thus didn't play my DS.

But I have Zelda, Rayman, and Monkeyball. I'll eventually be able to report on them, if desired.

I'm going to wait on the Wii, for several reasons, but mostly because nothing can beat the Gamecube launch date in the US.

The Leonid meteorites at 5 am (EST) were the perfect opening to a new console (I can still feel the magnetic crackle of the bigger ones as they burned brightly). My whole family went out to see them rush into the atmosphere (at what... 30, 40,000 miles per hour?) and before it was done we all went to go wait in line for the Gamecube. While waiting in line and with the sky brightening, I could still see a few streaks fall.

How many times does a celestial event precede a console launch?

Well, I didn't get one. Sears sucks for only having 2 in stock and not telling people waiting outside that this was the case.

I'm sure I will get one soon enough but it would have been nice to have had over the long weekend coming up. Oh well.

Game on,

Actually, the Leonids were supposed to be back for the Wii launch as well. How many times do TWO celestial events precede the same companies' console launches?

I spent 4 hours outside a Future Shop, and what do I have now?

Wii!

So, hereīs my preliminary comments. More to come:

The controls are amazing. Everything they said it would be. The controller is just so tiny. You know how small it is, but you donīt really realize until you see it. Wii Sports is really fun, but it takes a bit of getting used to. Same with the pointing function. It is really sensitive in a way that most people arenīt used to. As soon as my brothers get off, Iīm downloading Opera and Iīll be to Twilight Princess. We also got Excite Truck and Rayman. Unfortunately, there was a limit of 1 extra controller per person, but thatīs okay. We can get more later.

Only two? Weird.

I don't intend on getting a Wii until after Christmas (Thanks to various financial reasons), but from a retail side, the launch went a lot smoother than the PS3. We had 27 consoles, and they were all gone forty minutes before the store opened. I know we didn't have enough controllers to even have one extra per console, but people seemed to be generally pleased with the situation. We also have twelve on order, which is twelve more than the PS3 to say the least.

The limit was on purchases. As it turns out, my brothers went to a Zellers to pick up two more remotes while the Wii downloaded system updates (if it freezes, just reboot the thing). I tried out Twilight Princess, and 40 minutes in (and I was playing completely normally), I havenīt even got my sword. The game is very similar graphically to Oblivion. And Iīve only played it on SD. Iīll try to go order component cables, make it look much better. The graphics are at a point (especially in Twilight Princess) where any more is not at all nessecary. It isnīt perfect, but it is great. Man, is fishing hard! One thing I like about TP (and probably other nunchuck games) is that you can rest your left hand separate from your right. Man, this is awesome. I heartily recommend it to just about everything. Which reminds me, my mom needs to try it out. I havenīt experimented with Mii yet, but I think that itīll prove to be a cool feature. I all honesty, I give it a 9.7 out of 10.

Heh heh. I'm having fun as well. Bunches made a Mii, then I made a Mii, then I played TP for an hour and got the sword, and now Bunches is playing TP for an hour. There were no extra controlers by the time I got to the store, but it's alright. You can't download the Opera browser YET, but it should be up by the end of the year. Also, Contect24 is up and I got my first update. I might download Sonic later.

Well, on topic, I'm probably going to get the Wii during Christmas or my birthday, which is coming up in about half of a year. I really like way they designed the WiiMote, but can someone tell me what the Traditional Controller is going to be used for? It reminded me a lot of the Super Nintendo controller. I thought it was going to be used for the older games from the N64, GameCube, etc. but hey, I could be wrong.

Off topic, Mr. Editor has his Happy-Paper back! Yay! If you don't know what I'm talking about, just ignore that.

Okay, here's a list of the controllers and what they can play, as far as I know.

Wiimote: Can play Wii games and NES games if you tilt it on it's side.

Gamecube: Can play any VC of the VC games and Gamecube games and any game that requires a Classic Controller.

Classic Controller: This is used for Gamecube games, and VC games. Also used for Wii games like Super Smash Bros that won't be using the remote. It's basically useful if you don't have a gamecube controller and/or want something that matches the system.

You forgot the Nunchuck, which is used for the more adventure games (Zelda, Metroid) or games where both hands are involved (like Wii Sports Boxing or Rayman).

Eh, those jokes aren't all that funny anymore.

Well, for all who are interested, I'm on the second dungeon now. And I'm getting much better at the new controls, and finally figured out how to turn the annoying wiimote speaker down! It is now much less tinny sounding.

Yeah, so I sold my GameCube (+2 controllers, 3 1000 MB memory cards, 2 mics, and several games) for a good deal of $120 from GameStop. So that money will go into buying the Wii eventually. I had enough money w/ me at GameStop, but what do you know, they were sold out! So I guess I'll have to wait a week or more. :(

Oh, thanks Ezlo for posting!
