Movie. Early 90's. The guy on the ground is the famous one, and also has a successful actress daughter.

The only guy that sprung to mind was John Voight, but the stills you're showing don't look "polished" enough to be either Mission Impossible or Heat.
Oops, that was two guesses, but my point was that I think I'm way, way off...

Neither of those are correct, and it's not Jon Voight. The actor is not as popular as Jon Voight and his daughter (who is not in this movie) is nowhere near as popular as Angelina Jolie. They share a last name.

The movie itself is DEFINITELY not a blockbuster like the two you mentioned. I wouldn't really call it obscure, though.

Its genre can probably best be described as film noir (or neo-noir, since it was made in the 90s).

That's it. For those keeping track at home, the actor in question in that second picture was Bruce Dern, father of Laura Dern. The cryptic clue initially given was because the first two guesses ended with the word "Suite".

Regardless, I had recognized J.T. Walsh from the previous still you showed, so that had narrowed my choices down a bit.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film, by the way, but Lindsay Crouse was much prettier (and acted a touch better) when she played her role in Slap Shot.
