What Tahnan said. I do know that they knew that Firefly was already cancelled when Nathan was on Buffy, I didn't think about the actual timeframe.

The new shot looks very much like something from Monty Python (Terry Gilliam's animations) but I have no idea what it could be.

Yeah, that'd been my second guess seeing as I just bought all of Flying Circus on DVD and am making my way through them - but there's no way I'm gonna go look for a specific animation in all of them...

Actually, not true. Nathan Fillion's first appearance as Caleb was an episode that aired in mid-April of 2003 (and its last episode aired May 2003); Firefly aired from September 2002 to August 2003.

Finally found a clearer video on YouTube. Here's that last picture, slightly sharper, which may help; another picture in the wings if not.

I have a hard time imagining that I'm the only person who's seen this. At least, I hope not; you really ought to have.

It is, in fact, Danger Mouse (all three shots from the episode "The Dream Machine"). That's Colonel K in the third shot there. I wasn't sure whether Penfold's eyes and Danger Mouse's single unpatched eye would be recognizable.

Oh, well; I stand corrected. The first shot was very clearly British, and the second was a British footballer; the third certainly looks like a British pub (note the "we now serve Spirits in the new Larger Metric Sizes" sign), so I assumed that he, too, was British. Apparently not. Not that it gets me any closer to recognizing him.
