I had screenshot troubles with Windows Media Player, which could be fixed by turning off video acceleration. It's possible there's a similar fix for winamp shots... not sure since I haven't used it in a while.

(For reference - all my screenshots were either made with Media Player Classic or VideoLAN Client, and especially the latter won't have any kind of problems since it uses it's own codecs...)

I use Winamp because I want one media player that just works that isn't Media Player. iTunes doesn't count.

I'm sick of Winamp, though.

Well, I'd really suggest you use two programs, a video and an audio player - I'd hate it if every video I play would destroy my audio playlist. But that's your choice.

Still - if it's the clunky interface of the newer iterations of Windows Media Player that bugs you: have you tried Media Player Classic?

It looks like Windows Media Player 6.4 (i.e. before the interface became bloated - but that's all that connects it to WMP since it's an open source app from the ground up) but has much more (useful) features...

Mind giving me a bit of the gory details? Maybe I (or someone else) *can* get you to the point where *it* (what it, BTW?) can make a screenshot...

Also, if you haven't given VideoLAN Client a try until now, do it - it's using it's own codecs, so it definitely can make screenshots of everything it can decode...

That's one of my favorite movies but I certainly didn't recognize the first shot. The second one was a better choice--not entirely obvious but it evokes familiarity...not enough for me to get it but still.

Ok, this is weird.

I can take a screenshot, but rather than taking a single frame, its another window showing the movie, which goes black if I close the movie. Oh, and I am using VLC

You're taking a screenshot of the ugly purple/very dark/hardly used color that fills the player window so the graphics card knows where to overlay the video. So if the same color is shown somewhere else on the screen (like your paint program or something like that) the video will "shine through" in those spots as long as the player app is showing the video.

Don't use PrintScreen or anything fancy to take screenshots with VLC (or most other players, for that matter) - just use it's built in screen shooting function; in the case of VLC it's "Video / Snapshot" in the menu. That'll save a PNG of the currently shown frame in your "My Pictures" folder.

Just make sure you then convert that PNG to a JPG to cut it down in size before posting here.

The first shot is a pan across the courtroom at the start of the movie. I figured that because it was such a well-known movie I'd have to be subtle, and the woman there makes me think I've seen her before so I thought it'd mislead people somewhat. But I guess that movies don't work like games in that you cn usually find a screenshot that people can't recognise even if it's a really popular movie.

Strange - that's what I tried all along here, and it really hasn't worked for me...

Little-known movie... check.
Obscure scene... check.
Someone recognizes it about 5 seconds later... check.

Still no luck getting the screenshot working. It seems that the VLC thingo doesn't work either.(no compatible according to documentation)

So anyone who thinks they have interesting movie screenshot can go.

Should be pretty easy.
