Heh, I had no idea, so I looked it up too. Yes, I like that band, and I even have that song, but it's not one of my favorites and I didn't recognize the lyrics. Way too obscure for me.

Game on,

It's one of those "you have to be a HUGE fan, to know it" type quotes...BTW Oneiro...I take it you own Message in A Box....Kudos my friend...

Anyway...It was The Police with a song called "Friends"...I like to eat my friends, make no bones about it...I love The Police and Pink Floyd...lol

ok um...grrr....

"Hey you Whitehouse, ha ha, charade you are
You house proud town mouse, ha ha, charade you are
You're trying to keep our feelings off the street
You're nearly a real treat
All tight lips and cold feet
And do you feel abused?"

Oneiro will prolly know this one *no pressure* tee hee...

Hrm....I think you're not exactly playing by the spirit of the game here. We're supposed to be giving quotes from songs that have been on the radio at one point, not songs that you would have to "be a HUGE fan, to know it". The rules, if you'd call them that, are in the first thing of this thread. Yes, they were set by me, but everyone's followed them so far.

Okay, I know that is Pink Floyd...from the album called Animals (which I do not own), and I think it is a song called Piggies or something like that, but I'm not sure because there's a Beatles song called Piggies too and so I am probably mixing them up. I'm not the bigged Floyd fan, but I do know that song because of that whole Dark Side of the Moon/The Wizard of Oz thing. I'm not going to explain the whole thing for those who haven't heard of this, but for those who have, supposedly if you put Animals on after Dark Side of the Moon, the coincidences continue. In fact, when the Wizard is revealed, this is the song that is playing, right around where he sings "ha ha, charade you are." So, I know this one by lucky chance.

And yes, I do own Message in a Box...just listened to it a few weeks ago actually but didn't catch the lyrics to that song...might even have skipped over it, isn't it an Andy Summers vocal one?

Well, I'm going to go check and see if my guess on the Pink Floyd was correct...if not, I'll wait for Dub's judgement on whether I should get it or not. If so, I'll get another quote for y'all.

Edit: the actual song name is Pigs (Three Different Ones). If someone thinks they would have gotten this, I'll take my next lyric back. But in the meantime...

I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes

Heh, I bet you that almost every song by every major musical group has been on the radio at one point or another...either when they were at the height of their popularity as a "deep cut", or when the entire album is played on Sunday or whatever.

If there were thousands of people attending this forum and playing the game, I would say, "go for it, don't hold back," and I would do the same. But there's just over 200 people registered on this forum, and probably only 40 or so that stop by on a regular basis. And they all have really different musical tastes. So, in the interest of moving the game along it makes the most sense to pick songs that the "average person" may have heard and has a chance to guess.

Hey, if you want to, make a new topic, call it "Hardcore Classic Rock Lyric Quote Tag", and we can stump each other for years. Sounds like fun to me. :D

I am pretty surprised that no one got this...Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones...one of their most famous early songs, featured in lots of movies. Anyway, on to the next one, which should be even easier...

Love is like a bomb, baby, c'mon get it on
Livin' like a lover with a radar phone
Lookin' like a tramp, like a video vamp
Demolition woman, can I be your man?

That was Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard. I really thought people would know that one...or perhaps no one wanted to admit to it? ;)

Trying one more time...

I want to feel sunlight on my face
See that dust cloud disappear without a trace
I want to take shelter from the poison rain
....

That sounds like it's from Old Friends, by Simon and Garfunkel. Is that correct?

Here's one that should be easy:

My father was a gambler down in Georgia,
He wound up on the wrong end of a gun.
And I was born in the backseat of a Greyhound bus,
Rollin' down highway 41.

Oops, sorry, forgot it was my song. That was Night Moves by Bob Seger. Here's a new one:

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed

Hmmm...that was Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. I was sure someone would recognize that, but maybe no one reads this topic anymore. Anyway, third time's a charm?

My child arrived just the other day
Came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away

Edit: by the way, this song has been covered at least once semi-famously, so you can give either artist along with the song title.

Cat's in the Cradle by either Harry Chapin or Ugly Kid Joe.

Me turn:

Love, love is a verb
Love is a doing word
Fearless on my breath
Gentle impulsion

I changed the quote after realising that although my original quote was from a recent song, it might not have actually received playtime. This one I KNOW has been played on the radio, 'cos that's where I heard of the artist from.

Neon lights and the pretty, pretty girls all dressed so scantily
When they play their music, that hard rock music
They like it with a lot of flash

They all went in at half past eight and staggered out at noon
They went up to the graveyard, so holy and sublime
Found out when they got there, they'd left the corpse behind!

Alright, that one was a Melissa Etheridge song, Don't You Need

Hmm, what to present now...

How about one from a musical? For something different, and because I feel like being bizarre (plus it's a funny song), instead of putting up a snippet I'm going to put up the entire song, and you gotta say what musical it's from.

B: Boy
G: Girl

B: What'd you forget?
G: Got a light?
B: I know you... you're shivering.
G: It's nothing, they turned off my heat. And I'm just a little weak on my feet. Would you light my candle? ...what are you staring at?
B: Nothing, your hair in the moonlight. You look familiar. Can you make it?
G: Just haven't eaten much today. At least the room stopped spinning. Anyway. What?
B: Nothing. Your smile reminded me of -
G: I always remind people of - who is she?
B: She died. Her name was April.
G: It's out again. Sorry 'bout your friend. Would you light my candle?
B: Well...
G: Yeah... Ow!
B: Oh the wax, it's
G: Dripping! I like it between my
B: Fingers! I figured. Oh well, good night.
...
B: It blew out again?
G: No, I think that I dropped my stash.
B: I know, I've seen you out and about, when I used to go out. Your candle's out.
G: I'm illin, I had it when I walked in the door. It was pure, is it on the floor?
B: The floor?
G: They say that I have the best ass below 14th street. Is it true?
B: What?
G: You're staring again.
B: Oh no. I mean, you do... have a nice... I mean... you look familiar.
G: Like your dead girlfriend?
B: Only when you smile, but I'm sure I've seen you somewhere else.
G: Do you go to the cat scratch club? That's where I work - I dance. Help me look.
B: Yes! They used to tie you up -
G: It's a living.
B: I didn't recognize you without the handcuffs.
G: We could light the candle. Oh won't you light the candle?
B: Why don't you forget that stuff? You look like you're sixteen -
G: I'm nineteen, but I'm old for my age. I'm just born to be bad.
B: I once was born to be bad. I used to shiver like that -
G: I have no heat, I told you.
B: I used to sweat.
G: I got a cold.
B: Uh huh, I used to be a junkie.
G: But now and then I like to -
B: Uh huh -
G: Feel good.
B: Oh here it-
G: What's that?
B: A candy bar wrapper.
G: We could light the candle. Oh what'd you do with my candle?
B: That was my last match.
G: Our eyes will adjust, thank God for the moon.
B: Maybe it's not the moon at all - I hear Spike Lee's shooting down the street.
G: Bah humbug. Bah humbug.
B: Cold hands.
G: Yours too. Big, like my father's. D'you wanna dance?
B: With you?
G: No, with my father!
B: I'm Roger.
G: They call me... They call me... Mimi.
