So far the tradition of the game have been that both group and song title are required, and in general people only guess if they know both the group and the song title...so if you can't come up with the song title I will post a new lyric later today.

Okay, it was indeed Buffalo Springfield, and the song title was For What It's Worth. If you've seen Forrest Gump you know this song, the chorus goes "Stop, hey, what's that sound/Everybody look what's going down." But I didn't want to make it super easy...

I don't interpret Oneiromancer as directing his critique against you, he was stating to you the implicit criteria of the game, which is: We are trying to identify both the artist and the song (unless the person posting the quote says otherwise).

Posting the artist and saying you don't know the song isn't a complete answer, and it gives hints that arguably undermine the game. That isn't picking on you, it applies to all of us.

I understand your eagerness to play, but it's zex's turn right now.

Well, I hate to add to your interpretation of me as being critical, but the lyric really goes, "when you throw your love away"... (The Police, So Lonely, by the way. I really like the live version of this song too.)

Basically, Dub, in order for everyone to enjoy a game, we all need to abide by the same rules. It's just the way it goes. As for the other things, well, I promise not to pick on you if you don't leave yourself open for picking upon.

Hmmm...ignoring Matt's comment for now, my correction was just based on looking the lyrics up online (although I had always thought it was "throw" anyway). I know that sometimes the online lyrics are wrong, so I won't argue with you. I can see both words working, I suppose.

At least I hope you that you guys are...It's the internet, I'm not going for perfect grammer on the internet, it's not a term paper...It's funny because when I made a comment about Oneiros Lyrics he got hurt, but it seems that he can go around making comments and corrections to everyone else. Wierd huh...

One thing is, if you recognize the lyrics, you will know the song, if you are looking it up on the internet on the other hand, then I guess grammer would be a problem...I think the whole point is TO NOT look the answers up, if you don't know, then you don't know...

I'm sure if I looked at all of your posts, there would be a lot of errors as far as grammer is concerned...but it's the INTERNET...

I got hurt by your comment? About Who Do You Love? I admit I was confused, until I realized you were right, but I would hardly say hurt. And the two cases aren't even the same thing--you told me there were dozens of groups who performed a song, while I said the your lyrics had a small mistake.

If I look the lyrics to a song up, I don't answer it. The same goes for movie quotes--I play fair, thank you. I only answer the ones I know off the top of my head, and I know that everyone else here plays fair also.

As far as the grammar thing goes, go ahead and look up Eytan's posts, and good luck finding something...he has a degree Linguistics after all. I didn't really care about the grammar thing, but just because "it's the internet" doesn't mean it's not important. The whole point of language, including grammar, is to communicate ideas. If you use the wrong word, you run the risk of miscommunicating. Usually the meaning is obvious from the context. Sometimes it is not. I only complain about grammar if I really am not sure about the meaning from the context.

Look, I'm willing to let bygones be bygones. I really did not mean to insult you when I corrected your lyrics, and I was trying to be friendly and not say anything about the grammar. I am trying here, honest. Can't we all get along? (TM)

Whoa, people, chill. This is the second fight in as many pages.

Firstly, on the Internet your grammar and spelling are very important. People can't tell how intelligent you are, or how much thought you're putting into your words, so having good grammar and reasonable spelling (everyone forgives a typo or two) lends weight to your words.

Now, looking back over the genesis of this, no-one actually mentioned grammar. Onieros was merely pointing out a misquote, which probably should have been accepted with good grace. The game pretty much lives or dies on people making sure the words are exactly right, and it's no crime to run it by a lyrics service just to make sure - in fact it saves tears in the long run. When Dub pointed out that Oneiros' quote had multiple band members, he took it calmly and got on with it.

Now, everyone calm down. Oneiromancer is not out to get you, Dub. All we want to do is get on with the game. That's all.

In my esteemed opinininion (one of these days I'm going to drag that out to Saturn) this has been a major over-reaction, mainly on Dub's part, who seems to be spending a lot of time asking for Oneiros to calm down when he's already as calm as he usually gets. No one is out to get anyone, and if they are they won't be at it for very long.

In the future, everyone (including me, as soon as someone posts one I actually know) make sure your quote is perfect (so people who go 'well, it would be this song, but the lyrics aren't quite right...' don't feel annoyed when they find out they had the right song after all) and make sure you give both song and artist. Room for error means we'll have another fight, and I don't want that.

Now, are we going to play nice?
