Is now a bad time to point out that The White Stripes weren't the original artists for Fell In Love With A Girl?

Eep! My bad. I shouldn't have jumped the gun on that one. I had no idea that song was a cover. I thought you asked for the original artist just to deter the Weird Al answer.

I actually thought that as well. I think we should continue with the current thing though, because it's there. Like Mt. Everest.

Well, if we continue with it, then Oneiromancer's quote is from Games Without Frontiers by Peter Gabriel. And I was remembering a different song by the White Stripes that was a cover, Fell In Love With A Girl is indeed a White Stripes original.

Now, mine...

Just knowing that the world is round
I'm here, I'm dancing on the ground
Am I right side up or upside down?
And is this real ohhhhh, or am I dreaming?

I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself is a White Stripes cover of a Burt Bacarach (sp?) song. That must have been what you were thinking of.

Ah, a song by my hero, Weird Al Yankovic. That's from Why does this always happen to me

And now mine. Just a single line:

All my innocence is wasted on the dead and dreaming

That would be Counting Crows with the song titled (I believe) Angels of the Satellites.

At least I hope.

Right band, close on the title, but not quite. You know what song it is though, so I'll give it to you. It's called Angels of the Silence

Nope.

I hope this one isn't too obscure. This song was a single from a band back in 1997 or 1998. They had one big hit, and even though this isn't it, you might have heard this on the radio. I know I did.

This band also broke up in 2000, but I don't think anybody really noticed.

No one's biting, eh? Ok, this was The Battle of Who Could Care Less by Ben Folds Five.

How about this instead:

And at the city bank
We will meet accidentally
We'll start to talk
When she borrows my pen

That should be easier.

Okay, a long one:

I'm trying to cut down on my caffeine consumption
so when I get up I just have one cup of coffee
and I like to have another cup of coffee with my breakfast
and when I go to work I like to get a cup of coffee
like the kind of cup of coffee that you get with a doughnut
'cept I never get the doughnut I just get the cup of coffee
and when I get to work I like to have a cup of coffee '
cause I like to have a coffee when I'm talking on the phone
but It usually goes cold and I need to get another
cup of coffee and it's lunch and I have an espresso.

Wow. I don't really listen to music, so I never thought I'd ever recognise any of the lyrics in this "tag".

Of course, if I did say say what song it was I'd have to supply one of my own.

That would be the song you have in your sig, which I believe is called Stress by Jim's Big Ego.

When I get into it I can't tell if you
Are watching me twirling the stick
When I give the signal my friend
Rabbi Vole will play the solo

Admittedly, this may not be one you've heard on the radio, but these guys have a rather large cult following, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone here knew them.

Matt

[Edited by Mattcrampy on 02-18-2004 at 12:05 PM GMT: Changed the song, not the artist]

I always have a quote in mind, so if someone's afraid of answering because he don't have a quote, just ask ;)
Next time I might take something harder though.

Yeah, I shouldn't have left it.

Dr. Worm by They Might Be Giants. I understand this was one of their hits, 'hits' being a difficult term when the band only became recognised for writing the theme to Malcolm in the Middle.

This should be a sight easier:

You thought you'd found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace

Matt

Actually, I have a few TMBG songs on my computer, like Istanbul and The Sun.

I know that I know the current quote, but I can't remember the title or artist... I'll check back in when my memory's better

Not Constantinople?

(Sorry. I couldn't resist.)

I also have a few TMBG songs, but I'll wager that the average person hadn't even heard of them until Malcolm.

I just found Particle Man deep in the depths of my computer. I can hear the tune for the current quote in my head, with music and everything, but I can't expand it enough to remember anything else about the song.

I think, like myself, a lot of people first heard of them when Terry Pratchett said they were his favourite band in an interview a few years back.

He has a homage to them in one of his books (Soul Music - there's a band called They're Definitely Dwarves).

Alright, I finally remembered what song that quote is from. It's from Beautiful Day by U2.

My turn. These are three quotes from different parts of the same song:

Took a shower this morning... there was hot water left!

My son got suspened... not arrested!

My car was stolen... haha, has no brakes!
