I call this assistant The Shackled.

Beethro has far too few allies in this game, and those that are could possibly hinder him (I.E. mimic slayings)

This "monster" used to be a prisoner in the dungeon, and was shackled to the wall...thus, the shackled. If Beethro breaks the shackles (2), The Shackled will go after the closest monster until it kills that monster. Then, it will go for the next. The Shackled has no sword, just pent up revengeful rage.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and if The Shackled touches tar (it can kill tar babies though) it gets absorbed, because it has nothing to cut it with.

A possible addition for this, is a Brain o' Beethro. It directs The Shackled, who normally move like a roach, to the nearest monster. It must be killed to exit a room though, as must The Shackled. The Shackled will pass away from a lack of energy as soon as the room is cleared of monsters.

Good idea; why is nobody discussing why it will or will not work? I\'ll just move it up to the top here...

How will monsters react to The Shackled? Monsters don\'t seem to notice mimics, but would they try to avoid The Shackled?

Also, it sounds like when you release it could radically change the room. Since you can\'t control where it moves, The Shackled might act differently if it\'s released at different times. If it\'s necessary to complete a room, the creator will have to playtest a lot to make sure you can beat the room after releasing it at different times.

Sorry about the above being so confusing. Hopefully you\'ll all understand what I\'m saying.

Hmmm...this was probably one of my suggestions before I thought about playtesting. That is true...I still like the idea of having something help Beethro though. It seems a daunting task. Also, I think that the monsters would attack Beethro, because he is a new threat, and they know the Shackled wouldn\'t hurt them before (by smell)

Something on the Sourceforge page caught my eye regarding this...the \"prisoners\" were suggested to go to a teleportation device, or something. Perhaps the Shackled can do this as well, and it acts as an obstacle to monsters for both coding and testing purposes. Monsters can\'t kill it, save for tar. I like the tar idea, and I wouldn\'t take that away.
