Hooray!
I decided to try a little program that would tell me if I could make it into the center from my little area no matter what anybody else did.
It thought for a while, then said..

(Actually, I'd say theres about a 99.99999% chance that my program is wrong, because theres far too many possibilities. So nobody else worry, I'm going back to doing things by hand, much more fun :D)

So many have a need for speed....

Maybe next time we should have playoffs with players signing up for certain time zones and playing in a 3 to 5 day tournament. That is the play happens for 4 hours but very fast say every 5 minutes a move but then it stops till the next day. That gives everyone time to make a plan with time to think.

The game board can be half as large as what we have now but the same board would be used for each time zone. Then the top 5 winners of each time zone play in a show down that crosses both time zones. That is the play would start at an inconvenient time for everyone. And it could play in a segments rotating time zones with pausing or it could play like this one slowly.

I say this all because I would like to see this contest become an annual event.

Also don't for get to enter you turn and time guesses in the Predict what day and time the Snakes to the Death game will end. :w00t

And negotiate! "If you jump, I promise to bump. That'll put us both in better positions."

In fact, come to think of it, the next board can be a map instead of a pit; say, Europe. And instead of snakes we can use armies. And...

Er. I do think a faster-paced game would be fun. (How fast, I wonder, could it go if played at thirty seconds a move?)

I smell a separate game by itself. With game rooms and lobbies. From puzzle mode single player to 128-player snakepit. Money!I wonder when TCB comes out?

The problem, of course, is that people won't exactly be lured by the game itself :P

hmm.. how about 30 second rounds, but with play pausing when a serpent has a decision point but its player hasn't entered a move.
That player then has 24 hours to make a move (and meanwhile other players can update their moves as far as they can) Once the player has input a move, the game resumes.

I think it will probably be quick in general, unless you get two snakes near each other who get a series of decision points where they need to know the other one's last move before deciding on a move (so they can't plan ahead and enter a series of moves). And the players aren't online at the same time.

As much as I'd like to leave the top left chamber at this point, Ezlo, if I jump it just means Hikari can kill me by jumping, or both of us if he jumps twice. (See attached picture). While that would be very impressive to see 2 snakes killed so close together like that, I'd rather not be on the receiving end of that feat.

In any case, I don't like my chances of survival right now. Despite all the planning I put into my moves, I think in retrospect every major decision I've made so far has been bad. :blush

Actually, since Hikari moves first, I think Ezlo would get to bump right and escape. You, however, would not.

Snakes and Diplomacy brought together... I like. :) It'd probably need a smaller pit though, with more interaction between the same snakes; in this one there probably wouldn't be many chances for retribution against someone who reneges.

OK, so that means certain death for Ezlo, Tim, and Niccus. Anyone else?

I see a few potentially hairy locations, but no other definites yet.

Sergenth decided not to enter my cozy little area, thus making me work harder to get the same result. Foo.

I just realized I failed to account for one thing that made my last decision (bumping and killing Tim) much more dangerous than I thought. Sigh. Oh well, If I die now at least I know it's my own fault...

One thing I wonder is: how many snakes are there who have had no interaction with any other snakes yet? I'm one -- I haven't jumped over or bumped into any snake parts (and won't for a while yet). Stephen4Louise is another.

I realize I could just count them, but then what would I post about?

Only another four moves before I bump into someone, but then I'll be off back into my nice safe corner for as long as possible.

Until I have to leave and probably die in the next few turns!

The counter is off by about 1 minute. Also, if you catch the update at just the right time, you can sometimes see the highlight square be out of sync with the serpents when one updates but the other doesn't (early on it seemed that the square updated first, but after the temporary shutdown two days ago it seems the serpents update first).

Also - please don't put 2.5MB bmps - pngs and jpgs are your friends.

And now I'm in for a nail-biting two hours (well, 1:45 at the moment) where I wait and see what TripleM does. I'm pretty sure I'm fine regardless (I'm not entirely safe, but hey, who ever is?), but my choices will need to be pretty different based on what he does.

Zex20913 is now doomed to die. Why he chose to jump at his last decision point is beyond me. He might've been able to get into the middle arena if he bumped, although some other snakes could still have gotten in his way.

Edit: Oops, my mistake, he's just gonna do a u-turn.

zex still has a valid jump backwards. It's going to land him in the SE corner, which isn't a place I'd care to be, but I don't see death in his immediate future.

Wrong-o. I am able to jump backwards, taking the middle column. If I wasn't, I wouldn't have jumped.

But I did jump because, if the snake below me jumped as well, I would have had a lot of room to coil around in.

But, as it is, no doom.

Not only do I survive, but my direct path is to the center of the arena. If nobody's head gets in my way, that is.

And TripleM jumped!

I hope Tyrion realizes that if he bumps, he will have a clear path to the center and TripleM will be dead. While if he jumps, neither is guarunteed.

(Obviously, I have a stake in this as well - but I honestly think at this point that Tyrion's interests and mine converge.)

Bad Hikari! Bad!

I have backup plans. I don't reveal my sources. I'm not a crook. Rumors of my death and plan have both been greatly exaggerated.

Both, actually. :D I was waiting anxiously to see what TripleM would do, but didn't want to say anything to tip him off. If he had bumped, I think I'd have to jump to the top middle area, out of desparation, since (I'm assuming) eytanz would take the path to the center. And I had already concluded the top middle area is a veritable death trap right now, which is why I had bumped away from it. So, yay, good to still be alive, and in the center, no less.
