Nope, not Leisure Suit Larry, or any other game by Sierra. I'm attaching another screenshot. (Download and image in secret tag are the same.)

Actually, I don't think it is Sierra at all. It looks more like one of the older LucasArts games...like in the same era as the original Monkey Island or Loom.

Man...those were great games. I really want to load them up again one of these days. Along with every-freaking-thing else that I have nostalgia for and then probably won't enjoy as much. But at least with adventure games, it's kind of like reading a book again...and if you already beat it once, you don't feel so bad using a walkthrough to beat it again just to hear the jokes or see the cool scenes. ;)

Game on,

Congratulations! You got it! Thats why I saved that pic for the second shot. Third would have been actual text, so well done for getting it from old screen shots. Its amazing what kind of games you get to try if people that are naive about games are buying you birthday presents. Sometimes they just get lucky on obscure games that are nonetheless brilliant.

I went through an IF phase a while ago. Its amazing how good a game can be without graphics.

OK, heres another one. I'd be quite excited if somebody else can get this one. Played it a lot when I was quite young.

Iron Lord?

Can't even remember what kind of games it has. Lots of mini games, but I can only remember the arrow shooting... :( And the full screen map...

You got it! It was quite a weird game, you're right. Quite a bit of the text-adventure / point and click style of thinking (going around, talking to people, giving them the right things, etc), mixed with all sorts of minigames, including a battle at the end followed by some labyrinths, which made the game crash for me. Eventually I reprogrammed it (was in BASIC) to see the final scene, since we had finished all the rest..

Just a little sideline. Apparently the programmer of this game has put it up for free download on his site.

Here's a recent game, from the people who brought you the original DROD:

Agreed.
1- Recognise character
2- Go to vgpro
3- Insert character name into search
4- Make the obvious choice (and get the picture as confirmation)

EDIT: Finding something less obscure and recent, as per Tim's common sense post.

Do you really have to ask for obscure, only-released-in-Japan-two-weeks-ago games? I don't know where you got it from, but can you please ask for games that is a bit more common for the rest of the world?

According to my sources it's only released on "2006年7月13日発売予定/2000円"
(I can't read anything of it except for the date though. I really need to learn more kanji...)

Hrm, good point... I'll figure out something less recent and slightly more mainstream ^^;;

And actually, even though the pic was off of a ROM, I've got the cart in my DS right now anyways. That particular game's been eating into my DROD time, surprisingly enough.

Yeah, I'm an import gamer. Woooo. Already got the other two that're released so far in that series, too, and have this week's wave pre-ordered.

I'm a kind of an import gamer. But the place where I live has probably the most import game stores in the whole country, so we get to try a lot of new games out here.

But Europe has always been denied most of the better games anyway, so the import scene here is thriving. It has one good thing though, when the (black) DS Lite finally arrived in here there were already good games to play with. ;)

Hee... Nice to know I'm not the only one on here who at least keeps up with what's going on import-wise.

And hey, you guys got Zelda: Minish Cap before we did in the US. Plus back in the SNES era you got Terranigma, which we didn't, and I *think* you got one of the Kuru Kuru Kururin games for GBA, too.

Let's try *this* game... It *did* come out in the US (and I assume farther abroad as well)... I still play it every once in a while when I'm in a retro mood. ^^

Well, the first one is now in my black DS Lite. :)
Let's try *this* game... It *did* come out in the US (and I assume farther abroad as well)...
And I didn't know there was a sequel to the Star Tropics... The original was a quite interesting game.

Close, Beef Row, but Tim's the one who picked up that there was a sequel. Came out after the SNES did, so it wasn't too well-known. I think it might've been one of the last first-party NES games.

Yup, it's pretty neat, too. Zoda's Revenge. Big nasty alien from the end of the first one comes back for, well, revenge on Mike, while Mike is busy zipping through time collecting the seven mystical Tetris pieces (and meeting Sherlock Holmes, Cleopatra, and Merlin while doing so) as a result of getting sucked into what seems to be some kind of literature history book after saying the magic words, "Paa paa paa oom papa mow mow".

I actually liked the second one more than the first one. I found it to be more fun to play, at the time, though in retrospect, it's also a bit easier than the first one as well. No south Pacific theme, though you do visit C-Island again once you reach the final stages of the game.

No, but believe me, if I tell you, you will know why you could/should have known this one.

Edit: I thought you said the name was 'Psscht'. In that case the answer is 'no'. And now I really need to go to bed.

Shame on me I guess...the game doesn't look familiar at all. And even if it did, there are so many old IBM/Apple II games that I played and loved and yet I have no idea what their names are. If it was exclusive to another "ancient" computer system (C64, Amiga, etc) then I probably never played it, actually.

Game on,
