I suspect it's the sequel, in fact. Could be wrong though.

Nar, in the sequel they had the ingenious idea of having the hud obscure the screen.

indeed. I played that game like a dozen times, though parts of it are now fuzzy to me (like I can no longer give directions to that scene from the mission entrance :) ).

the sequel was... disappointing. not worth mentioning.

sorry for the dodgy-ish picture. I will do a better one if I can manage to move the game from a disk to my laptop :/

The name of your image looks like a reference to SMAC. I don't know what that screen is from though.

The name of the image is indeed a reference to Alpha Centauri.

The image itself, alas, is not. ;)

That looks very much like Frontier, a game I lost much time to exploring the galaxy while listening to classical music!

One feature, universal ammo, ruins it all for me. Not to mention the shocker of a story and a myrad of glitches and bugs. I never did like that hud either.

:) It looks like Frontier: Elite II. The sequel had an updated control panel at the bottom of the screen.

I don't expect this one to last too long...

The problem was not so much in the game itself - which was decent, though nothing memorable - but in how it failed to deliver on all the strengths of Deus Ex. It felt like a the game version of a Hollywood sequel - a movie is a big success so someone decides to copy the formula but ignores the many small details that made the original work.

for me it was mostly the console-support leading to the simplified inventory and skills, and the teeny tiny levels. the best thing in Deus Ex was the flexibility of play that allowed you to, say, fire rockets onto the top of a tower you were later going to ascend from the inside, or snipe people from half a screen away.
in the dozen or so times I played it, I think I only actually had the scripted sword encounter with that one person at the bottom of the big storage area once - and that was just to see what it was like. every other time, head-shot from the top of the ladder :)

nothing quite so fun or memorable in the sequel, which watered down everything.

Okay, ignore my previous edits. This is Chuckie Egg, which is apparently an adaptation of Miner 2049er.

Slightly longer than expected, but that's the one I was looking for. Well done.

Ah, yes. Maggie Chow. The stupid @#$%^ that brought a high-tech sword to a gun fight. Seriously, whose idea was it to not give her any kind of ranged weapon or bullet-proof cover and then have her talk trash like that? That had to be the most unintentionally funny moment in the game.

Creatures should probably be listed as 'Creatures (c64)'*, since the probably more well-known PC game of the same name is completely different.

* Or 'Clyde Radcliffe Exterminates All The Unfriendly Repulsive Earth-ridden Slime' :P
