Note that I'm not aware of the Japanese name, so make sure to give me the US name on the title screen, as that's what I've got. Unless it's Final Fantasy, everyone knows about the Japanese numbering scheme by now.

Let's see... This is what I thought after seeing the pic: "That's clearly a Breath of Fire game. I can recognise Ryu right away. I've played BOF 1 (SNES version), and I remember that it doesn't look like this one."

So I conclude that it has to be BOF 2 (which I've seen, but don't remember that well). Then I google for a screenshot for confirmation. First match is BOF 2 (GBA version), and has very similar green and red bars in the picture. So I look: "This is so close it has to be the same game."

Of course it isn't. Mattcrampy's picture matches neither BOF 1 or 2 on SNES. It's very close to both 1 and 2 on GBA (But there's a difference in the character portraits).

Just wanted to explain the mixup.

Matt got the Illusion of Gaia right. And yeah, after checking into it, it seems that the interface is different between consoles, not between games.

And I took the screenshot myself, and I have it right here, so if I didn't have the right answer there would be all sorts of problems.

Because people have gone the 'gameplay shot from weird game' so often, I'm going to go with my strategy of glitchy screenshots from recent games.

Also, I got this one and went, ha! that will be an excellent screenshot to choose. But I have another good idea I'll do next.

Actually, to me it looks more like flying through Un'Goro Crater or Feralas in World of Warcraft with the rendering distance brought down very close. But asmussen got it first of course, if that is the game.

It's actually from the beginning of the Deadmines dungeon if the camera gets caught on geometry - you see the mountain outside. But you are correct on what game it is! You're up!

Well, that game is a Top Dog at the Underdogs, and was featured in at least a couple magazines out here. That, and I guess most of us know the 90's pretty well, game-wise.

Of course, as you have shown yourself, truly old games don't work any better; it'll be hard to have a more obscure gaming platform than the PDP1, I guess.

Well, there's a lot of lore surrounding Spacewar! (being the first game of this kind and such) so it probably ain't that obscure...
