I'm struggling with this room. I realise the stone golems have to stay where they are if I am to drop all trapdoors to open the red door.

I can kill the three in the bottom RH corner, but after that they all start moving off their squares and following me, and I end up either dying because I'm trying not leave any undropped trapdoors, or killing them on a trapdoor and being unable to drop that particular door.

Anyone else found this room yet that is able to help?

First, you're going to have to allow for at least one (probably two) of the golems to move.

Second, don't worry so much about clearing the trapdoors. Make sure you leave 2 squares around the borders and move diagonally when appropriate so as to leave access between regions. But mostly, you want to kill the golems efficiently and then clean up the remaining trapdoors.

I ended up doing a lot by feel. In otherwords, there's no way to reason out exactly what to do before hand. You have to have some basic ideas about where you're going to go, but you'll have to play the specific positions as they arise.

the secret rooms I found on lower levels did not appear to be required to conquer in order to leave the level. Am I correct that this room, while secret, is required? Once I get in, I can't get back, but wonder if I hadn't been dumb enough to go in, if I could have left the level w/out the year it will take me to conquer the room?

It's completely unrequired for completing the level... like any secret room. If you are desperate, just restore back to before you entered it and proceed to beating level 6. Of course, you will need to do the room at some point to open master walls, but I bet you're not worried about it now :)

No, this one isn't required at all. The way that secret rooms work, all the game needs to know is that you conquered it and it will count towards your completion bonus. So once you beat it, you'll have to restore to a previous room to continue on.

By the way, it's not necessary to quote every message in its entirety that you reply to, and I don't think I've ever seen anyone else top-post on replies either on this message board. It makes it harder to read, in my opinion.

I could use another hint on this one if possible. I was able to kill all of them on the platforms (replacing the leftmost one and the top left one), but I accidentally did not leave a way to get some of the trap doors, and so it was for naught. I tried again, but I'm not quite sure how I lured one up without dying.
The way I go about it now is:

After that, though, I'm not quite sure how to stop the far guy from getting me. I can make it so the bottom left guy doesn't move, and then I want to lure the top one to the left, but the dastardly golem from the far left keeps getting me.

Any hints?

Okay, this room just even fun to try anymore. It's one of four secret rooms I ave left, and I hate it! I've been trying this room repeatedly at least once every time I play JTRH since I've discovered it to no avail! I've read the hints, and I still don't get it! :angry And as much as it hurts my pride to say it:

Yeah, this is a very nasty room - especially the lack of checkpoints! If you haven't already beaten the hold, or at least the level, I'd strongly recommend you do before coming back to this room - the extra experience with rock golems will be extremely helpful. Otherwise, progressive spoilers:

What I found works is to setup 'catches' where I can move about while keeping goblins in the same spot.

This one is ridiculously hard. Not sure I can give good hints, if you want to try it on your own before viewing the demo. Your sword should be west, and it's somewhat similar to a normal solution in that you kill as many golems as you can straight off to simplify things, then accept that some of them will end up moving to each other's places. It helps to create corners like this so that a golem stays still for a while:
