I made it to the second roach but the guard is already left behind with the first roach. Am I supposed to bring the guard all the way to the eye? I don't see how to lead the guard past the first roach. The best I could do was bringing the guard onto the first activated arrows and I get stuck on the second arrows. What am I missing?

Yes, the guard needs to come all the way with you. The trick is:
