I don't know what my goal is.
As in, I do understand I'm meant to somehow shove the eye into the pit and somehow not press that pressure plate.
That kind of hints to me that I should
I attach a demo of what I thought could make that scenario happen, but it didn't.

What to do then?

Remember that pressure plate activation happens immediately; it's only pressure plate release that is delayed. So anything stepping on the pressure plate is a fail state.

That means the only way to kill the eye is

I thought so too, but completely missed the fact that I can do what I was supposed to do. Sigh

Well, the earlier room you mention sure was much easier.
Manipulating THESE to do that kind of thing made me quite frustrated.
