I thoroughly played through all of Journey to the Rooted Hold, including the secret rooms, and when I got to the secret staircase that skips level 22, I used it not knowing going back was impossible. I then proceeded to complete the rest of the game. After seeing the credits I use the restore feature to go back to level 22 and complete it as well. Now it seems that "restore" can only switch my save file between 22 being complete, or 23-25, but not both. Is it possible to combine the completed rooms in one save file, or would I have to re-do the most tedious levels of the game from the "22 completed" save file in order to get 100% and lower the barriers in the dream plane?

Good news, the barrier in the Dreamplane does not require you to have beaten all the levels in the same "timeline".

All it needs is for you to have solved the secret rooms across any number of timelines - this means you can always restore back to any level, solve a secret room, then restore forward and go to some other level. You can then also restore to the Dreamplane once all secrets are conquered.

Other later official holds (The City Beneath, Gunthro and the Epic Blunder, The Second Sky, etc.) are better about letting you walk back to whatever level you want to solve in your same save file timeline without needing to restore.

Okay, thanks. I suppose I must have missed a secret level somewhere then, time to get looking!

There are no secret levels in JtRH, just secret rooms on the main levels.

Now that you've conquered the hold, the Restore screen will show a 'Secrets Conquered: m/n' value for each level in the bottom left corner. That should help narrow your search to the relevant level(s).
