Similar to what was done for GatEB, TSS and Treacle Stew, it's time for public voice auditions for DROD RPG 2!

There is a selection of roles available, male and female, large and small, including a significant number of small parts (think random Citizens). There are a few large parts though that we'll be specifically recruiting for.

We don't want to spoil the plot here, but we will be providing a selection of example voice lines for various characters that we're recruiting for. Feel free to audition for as many different roles as you like, big or small.

Inside the secret tags are some example voice lines you can use to audition with.

Post your audition files in this thread, preferably in a compressed format like MP3 so it's easier for people to download and listen to them.

For some tips for making good audition files, check out the Recording Tips section of this post.

If we like your recording, the Caravel Team will be shoulder-tapping you in a similar manner as happened for previous games and SmSs. If you are selected, you will be featured in the list of contributors and also receive a free copy of the game when it is released! Some people have previously gained access to the Sound Assets board, they are welcome to skip the public auditioning step and audition directly for some roles in said Sound Assets board.

Tendry (~500 lines!)
We've not been able to get hold of Abbyzzmal to reprise the role of Tendry, so Tendry may be up for grabs. Note that this is a significantly large role, think over 20 pages of A4, and we may ask you to rerecord all the death screams and grunts etc. relevant to the player role. Male.

3487th Bureaucrat (>100 lines)
A major recurring role. The Empire has a lot of bureaucrats, here's one of them. Could be either gender.

Crypt Keeper (> 80 lines)
I want to hear your best hammed-up cartoon villain impression, a good evil laugh is a must. Could be either gender.

Engineer (2 roles, ~40 lines each)
The Engineers from TSS return. Go to TSS, set your player role to Engineer, and click on your character for some example voice lines. We're not looking for an exact impression, there are multiple engineers and they don't want to sound identical. Male only.

Halph (~30 lines)
Halph returns, note that this is older Halph, not Young Halph. Male.

Patron (~30 lines)

Lots and lots of miscellaneous roles
Citizens, monsters, there's truly a gigantic number of other, more generic roles, ranging form ~40 lines to 2. Feel free to audition the following however you like. Either gender will work for most of these.

I'll be greatly appreciative of everyone who auditions to help breathe life into the next full game of the DROD series. If you have a halfway decent mic and know how to record a sound clip (I recommend Audacity, it's free!), please give it a shot and attach an MP3 to this thread. Don't worry about any post processing, and feel free to try any number of attempts in different styles, all in the same unedited file.

Well, I hate to have to catch people up on four-year-old drama, but I'll do it if I have to.

To try to lay out the facts as straightforwardly as I can manage:

* averagemoe was part of the voice acting crew for Treacle Stew.

* He subsequently posted some private information about casting progress in the Bar thread - when it was pointed out to him that he signed a Non Disclosure Agreement and he shouldn't do that, he acted self-justified and prolonged an argument rather than just simply apologizing and allowing everyone to move on.

* Schik revoked his access to the Sound Assets forum, which I think is a reasonable punishment for disrespecting the NDA.

Ultimately Schik has the keys to the building, so what he says goes.

As cool as a webcomic as Freefall is, averagemoe can't just link to a specific page that doesn't actually apply to this situation. That's not right.

I was all prepared to say whatever, it's all good. Then I re-read the old threads. You ask if you're forgiven, but you never acknowledged any wrongdoing or *asked* for forgiveness. Quite the opposite.

I want Kieran to be able to make the best product he can. If he hears an audition from you that he really wants in the game, I'm not going to stop him. I'll just make a new separate private board just for you and the RPG2 team, where only your parts will be posted. It will be annoying, but trust has been broken and there has been no attempt to regain that trust.

I do have a copy of the keys, but Mike owns the company and thus the keys. He has the ability and right to allow you in the regular board for submissions, or to take it further and ask me not to allow you in a separate board, since you've broken an NDA with Caravel already.

OK, thanks for clarifying. I wondered if it was something like that but the comic confused me because it seemed unrelated.

Personally, I'm happy to forgive and forget but fine with being overruled. It should be clarified, you'll be asked to sign an NDA if you pass the auditions.

Anyway, let's hear your voices!

Oh boy! I might not be much of a talker here, but I have a soft spot for DROD and consider myself an amateur voiceman. So when someone told me about it, how could I say no? It's fun, and I love it! And y'never know.

I'd like to point out that I'm using two setups here, just in case there's a preference for one or the other. Even if in hindsight one stands out.
Not picky on the roles, though I will say I'm partial to playing a hammy cartoon villain.
Unless my life flips upside down, availability is not an issue.

I apparently have a very good set of hammy villain type voices, and so just sorta adlibbed this together to introduce them. If you'd like anything more specific with any of these three, just lemme know.

Great! Those voices are really good. I still haven't assigned a lot of the smaller roles so there's still plenty up for grabs, and the more voice variety the better. Mike, please send Spleen the NDA and Sound Assets board invite.

Public auditions are now closed, we now have enough people that I'm confident all remaining roles can be filled with who we already have.
