Alright, yesterday's stream went pretty well! I've got it archived on twitch for now; getting a youtube account that's functional is going to require more effort from me, not to mention the editing, so if I decide to do that it'll take a bit of time...
But anyway, I'm planning to keep doing this on Saturdays, around the same time/localtime. So, the date in the first post will be wrong now, but the time should be correct. Definitely going to do it next Saturday, at least.
As for details of what happened, I got through the main meat of the prologue, then went back to try and do cleanup, and was eventually (with some help) able to get all the secret rooms, plus...something else. You know what I mean if you've played the hold, probably.
Considering how rusty I am at actually playing DROD puzzles, this was a really great warmup for my "
how does this game work again?"
and "
basic observational"
skills. The rooms were all quite good at showing/reminding me how things worked; the challenges were pretty tough even for these starter rooms; nothing felt like it took "
longer"
than it needed to to make its point. I think the word I want here is "
focused"
: My hindsighted impression a day or so later is that rooms largely have a central thing they want the player to do, and focus on
that thing. I don't believe this is the only valid way to make a good room, but it's a fairly reliable one, at least.
I do want to point out that I find none of this all too
surprising; that is, with all the time and effort of people more skilled than me that went in, it's nothing less than what I'd expect. But it's no less good for it.
