I just need a hint on getting started. How do I get the goblin to avoid the fire?

Goblins try to move towards you but as even higher priority, avoid all tiles adjacent to your sword. So when the goblin is at 1 and Beethro is at 2, you need to move east while your sword "covers" the firetraps. Does that tell you which way you need to be facing?

It didn't help me - I think I tried all possible combinations starting at that point (and otherwise), and the goblin dies every time.
E.g. moving Beeth right facing north twice, the goblin discovers there's now a space to the south-west of it and dies there. (northeast and northwest don't fare better either, as the goblin doesn't follow the sword)

Beethro's movement is processed first, so the goblin sees Beethro as being one column east of him. That means that, for example, when they are at the positions shown:



Beethro must be facing northwest so his sword covers all three fire traps next to the goblin.
