I'm completely walled here.

I think I need to get the queen into the east passageway, use her to spawn a roach, and have the roach follow me so I can get past the door on the west side. But I can see no way to move the queen without getting her stuck.

I can't have a roach follow me into the passageway otherwise due to the trapdoor, and if the stalwart goes into that passage, he ends up facing west and hitting the plate. If I have to somehow get him in there and keep him facing northwest, then I'm just going to ask for a demo.

What approach should I be trying to do, and more importantly, how should I go about it?

The first approach you said is correct. You have to get the queen into the east passageway, use her to spawn a roach, and have the roach follow me so I can get past the door on the west side.
Increasing hints to move the queen and to do the second part of the room.






However, doing what it's in the secret tags above is not the first thing you want to do in this room.
