I am a little sensitive about certain kinds of "spam" posts promoting games. It has nothing to do with being jealous that people aren't talking more about DROD or anything like that. I just don't like the forum we created to be exploited by outsiders.

If you've been on the forum for longer than a day and made some other non-promotional posts, then none of this applies to you. If your first post on the forum is promotional, moderators are almost certain to delete it and ban you. An exception might be if you make an effort to explain why the game would be interesting to DROD players and express an intent to respond on this forum to any replies. This last allowance might be too lenient, but I think the real problem is just drop-and-go posters (or automated scripts) that don't interact with anybody here. So we'll just see how it works out.

So this means no advertising for games, right?

Hmm. Well, I guess it depends how you define "advertisement". I thought I covered it all up above, but if you explain your question a bit better then I will clarify.

Like if you made a game (or you're in a computer game company and you're talking about their game) and you made a post linking to your game in every thread, sometimes more than once. You talk about how great it is, and you do nothing except posting about your game, no matter how off-topic that is. (It says stuff like that in the FAQ, except it only seemed to talk about porn advertising (it said something like "We're perfectly happy if you talk about your boat company, or that game you want to sell someday. But not about porno sites. Unless you work there and have a funny story.").)

You know, like spam to get you money, the kind you get in your e-mail inbox all the time.

I don't mind if game developers or other people associated with a game come on the forum and talk about it. Some interesting and valuable conversations can be had that way. I think the parameters I set above roughly sort out the spammers from the real users. If somebody only posts about their game and nothing else--spammer. If somebody's first post is about their game--spammer. If somebody won't come back to the forum after making the post and respond to what people say--spammer.

I'm not making rules to cover every situation, but this gives a rough idea of what is acceptable, right? A lot of it is fuzzy logic and not absolutes anyhow. Moderators will apply common sense judgment to figure out any grey areas.

I don't mind putting ads/links in your sig. Anything like that is okay as long as you are contributing to the forum and not just here to plug something.

Today I invited some developers of other puzzle games to post on the forum as long as they stuck around to respond to replies. My feeling is that conversation with these developers will be interesting and worthwhile. We'll see how it goes!

Oh, jeez...I am glad I caught this reply of yours before I finished posting. I was thinking..."this is pretty much exactly what Erik didn't want to happen in this forum."

Yeah, I figured Maksum might seem like a spammer at first glance, which was why I posted. Note that he did follow the rules described at the top.

Well, sure...I was mostly gonna link to this post and say "we'll be watching you." But I guess that point's already been made.

Finally a place that doesn't allow spamming in the message boards. I must say I do agree that advertising games could be ok as long as you don't post the link millions of times and on every board.

Uhm, sorry. I haven't noticed the rules before posting. My first post has been about introducing myself but then also about introducing my games. But I think I have something valuable to offer.

So I wanted to send a PM to Erik before doing anything but it seems he doesn't accept private messages, so I'll just leave this here

I began working on a project for a videogame with some folks (we're barely starting though) which I'll make all the music for, and would like to share it and hear some opinions

I'm not a new user, but I'm not a very active user either, so I just want to make sure if I'm allowed to do this and/or if I can make a separate thread or post it somewhere else

Thank you beforehand

I think it's an indispensable thing, it's just because you don't work in that field.:D

Hi, Luis. I don't understand.

What is the indispensable thing? Spamming?

Asking in good faith.
