ScummVM's latest beta version added support for AGS games[1] and I can confirm it works with this game! Obviously it uses different savegames though.

This also means the game can be portable![2]

Oooh, that's fascinating. Thanks for pointing that out! I think the main question is whether the Steam Achievements still work if you run the game from ScummVM.

Does ScummVM take all possible Achievements and Statistics from both Steam and GOG ([1]) but actually only fills them offline? I mean, ScummVM in itself is a strictly offline program (which is why it broke the latest version of Heroine's Quest[2]). Does it mean if you move to a new device you lose all your Achievements and Statistics from all your games unless you copy over files like heroinesquest-hqrecord.dat? Does it also mean the whole concept of comparison to others is not there or is it personal in Steam too?

That's precisely what it does.

And that's precisely why it doesn't (quite) feel like Steam 'cheeves, yes.
