Even people who have played the Demo version of The City Beneath know about the guy who had to nail every chair in the Rooted Empire to the floor.

And yet, in Finding the First Truth, in the who knows how long Beethro spent going to Lowest Point and back, someone set up a chair on the bridge overlooking Processing Station 9.

So do we mean to imply that somehow, it was decided that the chairs needed to be un-nailed? Actually, that sounds about right for Empire politics.

Oh, that wasn't a chair. That was a stool with a backrest, so it was exempt from having to be nailed to the floor.

It could just be that a new chair was built and nailed in place.

Okay, I don't know if I'm actually allowed to say this or not, but it's innocuous enough and an easy enough thing to guess that I'm going to assume it's not really a spoiler.

As one of the voice actors in the upcoming Smitemaster Selection, Treacle Stew, I know for a fact that it features chairs in at least one Empire-controlled area post-Turning. Chairs that are not stuck to the ceiling.

Perhaps you should re-read the guidelines for contributors.

A lot of tone and nuance gets lost over the Internet, so please read this in as friendly and open a voice as possible:

If you're not sure whether you're allowed to say information that came from a private board, you should probably ask about it privately first. Even if the info seems completely innocent, the project manager (in this case, me) has a better idea about what kind of information should be revealed to the public. It's easier to make one person (or some trusted lieutenant(s) appointed specifically for the purpose) be in charge of "fun leaks", than to give everybody any kind of fuzzy blanket permission.

For example, it's much better if I post screenshots of Treacle Stew rooms than if one of the beta testers did the same thing.

Anyway, to lighten things up a little bit...

Treacle Stew has at least one roach!!!

I'll leave you all to ruminate on the deep lore implications of this.

I knew it was irresponsible when I posted. But at least there's one comforting thing I can take away. Chaco's screenshots have revealed bigger things than this. Like the existence of at least four levels.

But back to the question of the chairs being right-side up. Were they pried off, or pre-emptively nailed to what was the ceiling pre-turning?

If you didn't know 100% like you phrased it initially that might be different, but why post if you definitely know this is the case?

I did a risk assessment. And in retrospect, I probably should have factored in that apologizing for a potential breach would potentially make it worse. It seems like I've learned both a good and bad lesson in one move. So, uhh... neutral character growth?

Yes, averagemoe, we know that you have a role in Treacle Stew and that you want us to know that you have a role in Treacle Stew.

So now that we know this, the following is an easy guide by which to identify the next time that you, averagemoe, should say anything, like anything whatsoever, about Treacle Stew.

See that bar on the home page? Is it at 100%? Great! Now see if there's a thread for Treacle Stew on the Holds page (you can do this first if you like, but it'll take longer). Is it there? Great, now you can talk about Treacle Stew in spoiler tags.

Otherwise, don't talk about Treacle Stew, and if you think you might anyway, walk away from your computer until the urge passes and then decide if you, averagemoe, want to come back.

Easy!

For cripes sake, every time I think I'm forgiven...

Forget the chairs, I'm formally submitting a request to have this thread locked.

I'm not going to berate moe for breaking the word (if you make a promise that you won't spill the beans, then don't spill the beans - make a promise, keep the promise, it's your word, and your words should matter), because I really like the guy (and like me, he's a true believer, albeit he's longer at this game). But I must say, a hold with exactly one roach to kill sounds like a good gimmick. As a matter of fact it would be hilarious if the only roach appearing in the hold would be fairly easy to kill.

Just in case, I dare anyone to make such hold. Because I want to play it.

EDIT: Oh, and I forgive you moe. I do wonder if the chairs being glued is part of some empire underground conspiracy

The Goblin is that, but with a single goblin instead of a single roach.

Consider my request rescinded. Though I will probably want to eventually find out why it never got put through.

Maybe the chairs had to be un-nailed because of a horrible incident involving a two rattlesnakes, a pressure plate, and a mud baby?

Arguably Level 13 of King Dugan's Dungeon is a level containing only a single roach that is easy to kill, but I suspect that that's not what you had in mind.

There is a reason why I don't want to remember that level and yes, I think you know what I think and why I think and feel that way. And what I had in mind was something more in vein of level 1, where you had this first roach that is easy to kill, and right after that you have some OMG Beethro's teacher-tier hard puzzles, but without roaches. Idk, the idea seemed funny to me in my head. But now when I'm typing it, I kinda feel dread
