Do Spells Damage Enemies outside of Combat? (0)

Just what it says on the tin. Usually I have time to fire-off Bless, and maybe ice bolt or lightning bolt on an enemy before they enter combat, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Is this intentional? I only ask because casting lightning bolt outside of combat looks way cooler than within

They do, actually.

Click the targetting icon on the enemy itself, not where the enemy's going to be.

It should hit them.

But it's worth noting that spells and throwing items and never *kill* enemies outside of combat.
