Just so all the stories and puzzles can be put together in some sort of chronological order, and to give them a more realistic feel, do you think that you could give us some dates and years for some of the occurances and stories you wrote?

Oh, and have you finished the next verse of "The Wormspeaker" yet?

I never was able to read that poem. Maybe I'm missing something here, but it's not even in English. <sigh>

It's in English, but it is difficult to read. It took me a while to translate it the first time I read it. Later on today I'll post a full translation.

Well, I don't know about dates, but roughly it goes in this order:
0. The Wormspeaker, Verse 1.
1. Story of Beethro
2. Beethro (player) conquers Dugan's Dungeon for the first time.
3. Beethro's tale (end game sequence).
4. Chapter 1 of Beethro the Delver.
5. Chapter 2 of Beethro the Delver.
6. And the other not-yet-here chapters of BtD.
Oh, and have you finished the next verse of "The Wormspeaker" yet?
Nope, but thanks for asking.

The next story content you'll see is Chapter 3, "The Universal Song". The Beethro the Delver series serves the purpose of introducing "DROD: Journey to Rooted Hold" which will incorporate more story elements as you play through it. You're going to get a bigger picture of the DROD world***.

You know, in my last response, I didn't consider that you and maybe one or two other people might want a little more to go on for writing your own stuff. At some point, I'll write out a quick little overview of things to help you out. Give me some time for that.

Alright, here is the full text of The Wormspeaker, translated by none other than me. There were a few words that I had trouble with (Erik, could you help me out with these?), and they appear as (...). Also, I could never figure out exactly what the main character's name was supposed to be, so I just call him E (which is what the first letter of his name appears to be.

Don't read this if you want to try to figure it out on your own.

Nope. This text and the other Sihmpuhl Englihsh text are meant to be worked out.

A few things I can tell you:
* Consistent rules are used for writing the text.
* Wormspeaker, Verse 1 is intentionally easy.

Nobody seems to have gotten anywhere with the text from "Bombus Defeats the Eyeball Pudding". Maybe it is too hard.

Only I can't work out lines 10, 11 and 13.

Did I get most of it right?

Oh, I dunno. It started out that I wanted a way to put unusual-looking text into illustrations. And then I thought it might be fun to make it more puzzle-like.

I'll submit it as soon as I've got time; it appears that it's more complicated than I first thought because a "line below" accent on a vowel usually makes it into a long vowel, but on an "A" it appears to shorten it, so I'll have to have a good think about it. If you could send me another sample of the language, such as in another story by e-mail, Erik, it would make it easier for me, but i'd understand if you don't want to help (It is your puzzle after all!).

Hmm...I'm not sure. When I pronounce the word 'Neather, I always pronounce it with a short "E". However, I think I have found two more spelling mistakes:
1. In "Seeding" (S, E, D+ing) the "E" should have a line below accent because it's a long vowel.
2. In "Actual" (A + down accent + line below accent, K+T, U + down accent, L) the "A" should not have a line below accent because it's a short vowel (I looked it up)

Sorry Erik!

I heard at some point that it was a short form of "beneather", so I pronounce it with a long "E", like in "beneath". Either way, there's an error somewhere, because we have the same word spelled in two different ways.

Neato! I actually kind of get it now. It's like phonetic spelling, with intertwined letters that you really have to take a good look at to make sure you get it right. BTW, what exactly is a long and short U? I thought a long U made the "oo" sound, but now I'm not quite sure.

Isn't his name Efen? That's kind of obvious, based on the E-looking character used in "The". Both Es are short, then.

I have no idea why the line is there under that O-like thing, but you're right, the first unknown is definitely Early. Shouldn't the O appear as it does in "Verse", since the "ear" in Early and the "er" in Verse have the same sound? Can you even make that sound long?

Haha, I'm smart!
Click here to view the secret text

Also, the U in "enuf" should not have a line under it, since it's short, like the "but" that follows it a few words later. Boy, I'm picking up on this fast. :glasses

Sorry about this, but the last small "n" trailing another letter actually is an "ing" suffix. A good example of this is "seeding" - The D+ trailing "n" is actually D+ing, not D+N.

Never mind...the rest of your last post appears fine to me.

I'm happy that people are figuring out the text.
