Finish the second half using only two upgrades from the Machines. |
This is the absolute minimum, since it's essential to get two ATK upgrades in The Goblin Tribe to kill a Rock Golem to obtain the Goblin-Biter. (Killing the Goblin King without it is possible, but requires even more upgrades.)

×* The Mimics and Soulless guarding the Longsword are a big problem now. I found it easiest to go around them.
* There's no reason not to take the 3% boost as soon as it becomes available. Similarly, after taking it, you can take the HP boost from the man in The Goblin Tribe at any time, although I didn't need to.
* Hoard green keys. Being able to get the Steel Shield early is a lifesaver.
* Beeline straight for the Hand Bomb so you can get the Really Big Sword as soon as possible.
* Once you get the RBS you're pretty much done. Getting the Knight Shield immediately helps, since the Oremite Shield is impossible to obtain, but the RBS/Flippers caches contain plenty enough HP to keep you going anyway.
* It's impossible to kill the Slayer, so use the Pickaxe to skip a blue door and avoid him.
By the way, contrary to what I said before, three upgrades is enough to kill rather than bypass the Slayer. It makes the Oremite Shield attainable, for some thousands of HP, but getting it lowers the Slayer's damage by even more. Also, I'd completely forgotten about the man in The Goblin Tribe when I posted that
